California Cyclist Finds Six Abandoned Puppies On A Mountain, Unaware They Would Help Her Through Her Hardest Goodbye
A routine bike ride turned into a life-changing rescue mission, leading to a beautiful California sanctuary built in honor of a beloved soul dog.
A Creative Rescue Mission
With no easy way to transport the litter, the two friends had to think fast. They got creative, figuring out a way to safely hold the tiny dogs for the journey back.
Carefully, they carried the puppies all the way down the mountain to find help.
It was a challenging trek, but leaving the vulnerable animals behind was simply not an option.
An Unexpected Expansion
At the time, Andrea already had four dogs of her own waiting at home. Keeping a litter of six puppies for herself was definitely not part of the plan.
She worked to find them loving homes, and some of the puppies were successfully adopted out.
However, two of the pups were returned just weeks later. Andrea couldn’t bear the thought of risking another failed adoption, so just like that, her dog family officially expanded.
Devastating News
Around that same time, something else happened that changed everything in Andrea’s world.
Her soul dog, Rafa, sadly and suddenly fell ill. After a trip to the vet, she received the worst news possible: Rafa was diagnosed with cancer.
The vets gently told her that he might only have a few months left to live. Andrea was beyond devastated by the diagnosis.

Determined to make his remaining time special, Andrea decided to take Rafa to the forest every weekend. It was his absolute favorite place in the world.
