Heartbroken 16-Year-Old Dog Was Dumped At A Texas Shelter Nearly Hairless And Too Timid To Trust Anyone
A senior dog abandoned at a Texas shelter with severe skin issues finds a loving home and a gentle giant of a brother who helps him heal.
Left Behind in His Golden Years

Shelters are overwhelming places for any animal, but for a senior dog, the experience can be truly devastating.
When a little dog named Link was dumped at a shelter, he was already around 16 years old. His body was frail, and he was suffering from severe skin issues that left him nearly hairless.
While it was unclear exactly why Link was abandoned, his extensive medical needs suggested his previous family simply couldn’t care for him anymore.
Thankfully, a woman named Angel took a photo of the heartbreaking senior pup and shared it online, hoping for a miracle.
A Leap of Faith for a Senior Pup

When Carly saw the photo of Link, her heart immediately went out to the fragile little dog.
She fell completely in love with his sweet face and decided right then and there that she was going to adopt him.
When Carly arrived to pick him up, Link was incredibly shy and timid. His skin was in rough shape, and he had hardly any fur left on his tiny body.
He was nervous about his new surroundings, but he was about to meet someone who would change his life completely.
An Unlikely Welcome Committee

While Carly was thrilled to bring Link home, the most excited family member by far was her resident dog, Toad.
Toad is a large, 80-pound dog with a heart of gold, and he immediately sensed that the tiny 7-pound newcomer needed some extra love.
Despite their massive size difference, Toad was incredibly gentle with Link from the very beginning.
He seemed to understand that the senior dog was fragile and needed time to adjust to his new life.
A Gentle Giant’s Tender Care

The first few days were difficult for Link, as his skin condition caused him a great deal of discomfort.
He would often whine and itch constantly, trying to find relief as his body went through the healing process.
Whenever Link was struggling, Toad would be right by his side. He would comfort the little dog, sniffing and nudging him gently.
Toad even started bringing his own toys over to Link, trying his best to cheer up his new tiny brother.
Two Years of Healing and Bonding

The bond between the two dogs blossomed quickly. It was as if Toad believed the tiny senior dog was his own baby.
Fast forward a little over two years, and Link is now around 18 years old and thriving in his forever home.
The two brothers are completely inseparable. They spend their days lounging around the house and cuddling together on the couch.
When Carly takes them for walks, their 73-pound size difference turns heads. People often roll by in their cars just to point out what “quite a pair” they make.
A Surprising Personality Emerges

As Link healed and grew more comfortable, his true personality began to shine through.
Despite his small size and advanced age, Link is very demanding and isn’t afraid to bark to get exactly what he wants.
He has also become incredibly social. When Carly takes him out in public, she actually has to hold him back from trying to greet and sniff every single person they pass.
His shy, timid shelter days are completely behind him.
The Great Breed Mystery

When Link was first posted for adoption, the shelter had him listed as a Chihuahua.
However, Carly is convinced he can’t be a full Chihuahua, mostly because of his absolute love for bad weather.
Whether it is raining or snowing outside, Link doesn’t care at all. He always wants to go outside, completely defying the typical Chihuahua stereotype.
Before his fur grew back, Carly thought he might be a toy poodle mix, but now that his coat has returned, she admits she doesn’t have a clue what breed he is.
Warm, Fuzzy, and Finally Home

Today, Link is a completely different dog than the hairless, frightened senior who was dumped at the shelter.
He has a cataract in one eye, so his vision isn’t perfect, but he has mastered the ultimate “puppy dog eyes” to get Carly to pick him up.
He receives every possible treatment to keep his allergies and skin problems under control.
Looking at her cute little old man, Carly just feels warm and fuzzy. She knows how lucky she is to give him a life filled with love and comfort in his final years.
