When a senior dog named Hobbs was found wandering the streets of the Bronx, New York, he seemed completely lost in the world. He was an older dog who could barely walk, struggling to navigate an environment that had likely been unkind to him.

To the people who first approached him, he appeared deeply confused by any positive attention. It was as if he had never been treated in a loving way before.

His rescuers theorized that he had been dumped or abandoned. Out in the wild, his chances of survival were heartbreakingly slim, but thankfully, his story was just beginning.

A Heartbreaking Condition

Hobbs was suffering from a multitude of health issues when he was finally taken off the streets. His teeth were fractured, pointing to a history of neglect and hardship.

The sweet senior was initially picked up by Animal Care Centers of New York. From there, he was transferred to a rescue organization called Tails of Love, which specializes in giving dogs a second chance.

It was through this rescue network that a woman named Catherine first saw Hobbs. Despite his medical issues and fearful demeanor, she felt an instant connection.

“I just felt like he was the perfect dog for me that needs some extra love and care,” Catherine explained. She knew he was desperate for love, even if he was too scared to show it.

Breaking Down the Walls

In his new home, it took time for Hobbs to adjust. Slowly but surely, he began to realize that he was finally safe.

He learned that it was okay to be loved, and he formed an incredibly tight bond with his new mom. While he remained guarded around strangers, he completely opened his heart to Catherine.

“He’s my little baby,” she shared. “I’m pretty much the only person that he likes.”

Snuggles on Demand

Because of his torn ligaments, luxating patellas, and arthritis, Hobbs remains a “pretty hobbling old guy.” He can walk, but not very far.

To make sure he still gets to experience the world, Catherine takes him out in a dog stroller or carries him in a baby wrap. He absolutely adores being held close to her chest.

In fact, he has come to demand his daily cuddle time. If Catherine doesn’t hold and snuggle him for at least an hour a day, the sweet senior gets visibly upset.

Unlikely Feline Babysitters

Catherine’s dedication to Hobbs is constant, but there are times when she has to leave the house. When she does, she relies on some very special helpers.

Her cats have taken on the role of babysitters for the fragile senior dog. They keep a close eye on him while Catherine is away.

“I feel like they watch over him,” she noted. Knowing that her cats are standing guard gives her peace of mind that Hobbs is always in good hands.

The Stubborn Potato

Despite his physical limitations, Hobbs has a very distinct and funny personality. He is notoriously resistant to any form of exercise.

Whether it’s walking, swimming, or even just floating in the water, he flat-out refuses to participate. He is perfectly content simply existing in his comfortable new life.

Catherine affectionately describes his unique appearance, noting that he looks like a “little hedgehog with a potato body” and a pointy little face.

An Unexpected Message

As Hobbs approached his 15th birthday, Catherine received a surprising message. The Humane Society sent her a link to a dog that looked exactly like him.

The dog, named Little Nacho Supreme, was 11 years old and had also been found wandering as a stray. He was Hobbs’ exact twin in almost every way.

Without hesitation, Catherine raced over to the shelter. She adopted Nacho right away, bringing him home to meet his lookalike.

Two Senior Best Friends

The two senior dogs hit it off immediately. Despite Hobbs’ usual guarded nature, he welcomed his new brother with open paws.

Today, the nearly identical pair are the best of friends. They spend their days snuggling together, making up for all the years they spent alone on the streets.
