Mississippi Dog Was Enormously Pregnant, But Her Foster Mom Was Left Stunned By The Final Count
A foster mom was anxious about her heavily pregnant rescue dog, but nothing could have prepared her for the marathon delivery that resulted in an astonishing 14 puppies.
An Anxious Wait
When a rescue dog arrived at her foster home in Mississippi, it was immediately clear that she was carrying quite a bit of extra weight.
She was enormously pregnant, waddling around with a belly so large her caretaker affectionately called her a “big chunky monkey girl.”
Despite the sweet nickname, the impending birth weighed heavily on her foster mom’s mind.
She admitted that she was really stressed out about the situation, knowing that delivering and caring for a large litter would be a massive undertaking.
The Middle of the Night
The waiting finally came to an end in the quietest hours of the morning.
Around 2 a.m., the expectant mother went into labor and safely delivered her first few babies.
Shortly after, her foster mom checked in and saw five tiny puppies already nursing comfortably.
It seemed like a standard, healthy litter size, and a wave of relief began to wash over the room.
They Just Kept Coming
Just as things seemed to be settling down, the mother dog’s body tensed up again.
“I saw a contraction hit, and I was like, ‘Oh my goodness, this girl is going to keep going,'” her foster mom recalled.
She realized they had another puppy on the way, but even then, she couldn’t believe what was happening.
She kept thinking the mother had to be done, but more and more babies continued to arrive.
An Insane Final Count
By the time the marathon delivery finally concluded, the whelping box was overflowing with tiny, squirming bodies.
The foster mom began to count the puppies one by one, completely stunned as she reached the final number.
She counted an unbelievable 14 puppies in total.
“I thought, ‘There’s no way! This dog just had 14 puppies. This is insane,'” she shared.
A Natural Mother
Raising such a massive litter is no easy feat for any animal.
The sweet girl certainly had her hands full with 14 hungry mouths to feed and clean.
Yet, she proved to be an incredible mother throughout the entire exhausting process.
She was patient and gentle, teaching her babies everything they needed to know as they grew.
Ready for the World
Weeks passed, and the tiny newborns blossomed into playful, energetic little dogs.
Thanks to their mother’s excellent care and their foster mom’s dedication, they were all incredibly friendly, wonderful, and happy puppies.
Soon, it was time to get them ready for adoption so they could find their forever families.
Saying goodbye was difficult for the foster mom, who admitted that adoption day was deeply emotional.
A Perfect New Chapter
“I felt like they were my own little babies I was just letting loose into the world,” the foster mom explained.
But the puppies weren’t the only ones who got a happy ending after the long journey.
The brave mother dog, Pebbles, also found the beautiful fresh start she deserved.
Now renamed Zara, she went home with a family that loves her completely, proving that she couldn’t have found a better place to spend the rest of her life.
