Washington’s Tacoma Loved Her New Life And The Snow, But When Her Family Brought Home A Deeply Anxious Shelter Dog, She Took On A Beautiful New Role.
A Deep Love For The Snow
For a beautiful rescue dog named Tacoma, there is nothing quite as magical as the first winter snowfall in Washington.
That first moment of realizing there is snow on the ground completely transforms her.
She will happily run out into the yard, roll over on her back, and make her very own snow angels.
She even makes a game out of destroying any snow structures her family tries to build, hopping through the powder like a joyful snow rabbit.
Rescued From Up North
Tacoma’s stunning looks come from a unique blend: she is part Malamute, part Husky, and part Shepherd.
Her journey started up north, where she was rescued from a reservation and given a second chance at life.
When her future family first laid eyes on her, the connection was instant.
“We saw her and immediately I was like, ‘This is my dog,'” her owner recalled.
Finding Her Confidence Outdoors
Before finding her forever home, Tacoma spent time in a foster home alongside her sister, Tandra.
When she first arrived at her new house, it was clear that she was missing her sibling.
However, stepping outside into the fresh air turned her into a completely different dog.
She became super happy and excited, often walking very slowly at the end of her walks just because she knew she was heading back inside.
Room For One More
Even though Tacoma was thriving, her family eventually decided they were looking to adopt another rescue dog.
They knew it might be a careful transition, as Tacoma didn’t exactly love puppies.
But their hearts were open to giving another shelter dog a loving home.
That was when they found Scout, a dog who desperately needed a quiet, patient environment.
A Terrified New Arrival
When they brought Scout home, the poor pup was completely overwhelmed by the outside world.
She had never been outside of the SPCA environment before her adoption.
Everything was frightening to her; she was so anxious that she was even afraid of a leaf falling from a tree.
Scout also suffered from severe anxiety when it came to meeting other dogs.
The Big Sister Effect
Fortunately, bringing Scout into a home with a bigger, confident dog made all the difference.
Tacoma naturally stepped up to help Scout remain calm, especially when they were around other dogs.
The terrified shelter pup quickly found comfort in her big sister’s presence.
Scout just wanted to be near Tacoma, using the older dog’s calm energy as a protective shield.
Following In Her Paw Prints
With Tacoma by her side, Scout slowly began to embrace the things that used to scare her.
Now, when she sees Tacoma playing in the snow, Scout eagerly wants to join in on the fun.
Watching the two dogs covered in snow, playing freely, their owners joke that you can definitely tell they are descendants of wolves.
The snow that once might have frightened the sheltered pup has become a playground.
Conquering The Water
The duo’s adventures aren’t just limited to the winter months.
Their absolute favorite place to be involves water, where Tacoma has proven herself to be a champion swimmer.
Just as she did with the snow, Scout learned how to be brave in the water simply by watching Tacoma.
When Scout sees her big sister swim, diving in becomes automatic for her, too.
A Beautiful Life Together
Tacoma’s calming influence even extends to paddleboarding.
While Scout can still be a bit wiggly on the board, she watches Tacoma relaxing and realizes that it’s much more fun to just sit and enjoy the ride.
Thanks to a rescued Husky mix from a reservation, a terrified shelter dog finally learned how to live.
Their family couldn’t be happier, noting they have two truly amazing dogs and literally couldn’t imagine life without them.
