Senior Pitbull Kept Waiting In Her California Kennel After Losing The Only Home She Knew
Surrendered at 10 years old, a sweet senior pitbull named Samantha shows her California foster family that she is more than ready for a second chance at love.
An Unexpected Change
At 10 years old, a sweet senior pitbull named Samantha found her entire world turned upside down.
She was surrendered to a local animal shelter, entirely through no fault of her own.
Her previous owner had developed severe health issues and was simply no longer able to provide the care she needed.
Suddenly, this gentle older dog found herself sitting behind the bars of a noisy shelter, waiting for someone to notice her.
Stepping Up For A Senior
Fortunately, Samantha didn’t have to wait in the shelter for long.
A purposeful rescue team spotted the wonderful senior pity and knew they had to get her out.
They pulled her from the facility and immediately reached out to a woman named Kimberly and her husband.
The couple, who foster dogs for A Purposeful Rescue, gladly opened their doors to give the older girl a soft place to land.
Settling Right In
Many dogs need a significant decompression period after leaving a shelter, but Samantha was different.
She didn’t need much time at all to come out of her shell.
Instead, she walked into her new foster home and settled right in as if she had always belonged there.
Kimberly noted that the senior pup seemed completely ready to just relax and enjoy whatever life had to offer.
The Look Of Love
As she grew more comfortable, Samantha began displaying a deeply endearing habit.
Sometimes, she will just sit and watch her foster parents for a very long time.
She uses soft, gentle eye contact to communicate her gratitude and affection.
“She just wants to be around you and near you,” Kimberly explained, touched by the dog’s quiet devotion.
A Special Bond
That affection quickly extended to everyone in the household, but she formed a particularly lovely relationship with Kimberly’s husband.
She is never afraid to show him how much she cares.
“She’s like, I’m ready to give you kisses and hugs, and I’m not scared of your affection at all,” Kimberly shared.
Her eagerness to love and be loved is a true testament to her resilient, forgiving spirit.
The “Hippo Potato”
Beyond her loving personality, Samantha has a unique and adorable physical presence.
Her foster family affectionately jokes that she looks like a little hippo, or sometimes even a potato.
When she first arrived, she also had several skin tags that the rescue playfully referred to as her “Christmas ornaments.”
It took a bit of a medical journey to have those removed, but after a successful surgery and recovery, she is completely on the mend.
A Friend To Everyone
If there is one thing Kimberly wants people to know about Samantha, it’s that she is essentially the perfect dog.
She doesn’t just tolerate others; she actively loves them.
Samantha is wonderful with children, gets along great with other dogs, and even likes cats.
As Kimberly puts it, there simply isn’t a grumpy bone in her entire body.
The Golden Years
While some adopters hesitate to take in a 10-year-old dog due to the fear of impending heartbreak, Kimberly believes they are missing out.
Senior dogs have so much life left in them and an incredible amount of love to provide to a family.
“Honestly, that question is a question even with younger dogs too,” Kimberly pointed out. “You just never know what’s up.”
Now available through A Purposeful Rescue, Samantha is waiting for a family where she can be the center of attention and a best friend for the rest of her golden years.
