Growing up with dogs, this Texas mother knew she wanted her own children to experience the same special bond.

However, finding the right fit required a lot of careful research.

With a three-year-old and a one-year-old at home, safety and temperament were her absolute top priorities.

She needed a dog who could handle the unpredictable energy of two toddlers.

When they finally found Walter, he wasn’t exactly a confident, bouncing puppy.

He was incredibly timid, often acting like he didn’t want to participate in new activities.

Walter was all legs and notoriously clumsy as he tried to figure out his large frame.

Despite his awkwardness and hesitation, his underlying gentle nature was immediately clear.

Despite his towering height, Walter has no idea how big he is.

He will happily try to sit right in the toddlers’ laps, making for a hilarious sight.

The bond between Walter and the oldest son is incredibly special.

The little boy genuinely believes that Walter talks back to him during their long chats.

He will sit and have extended, heartfelt conversations with the gentle giant.

Since Walter hardly ever makes a sound, it ends up being a very sweet, one-sided discussion.
