A tiny puppy named Kona stepped out of a carrier and into a young California woman’s life, eventually becoming the dedicated service dog who would help her conquer her deepest fears.
Living in Fear
For a long time, the world felt like a frightening place for one young California woman.
Struggling with severe anxiety and overwhelming shyness, she often found herself feeling trapped by her own fears.
“Before, I was just very scared,” she recalled about her difficult daily life.

If an episode does occur, Kona knows exactly how to step in and interrupt it.

Kona’s tasks go far beyond just keeping an eye out during the day.
She is specially trained to wake her owner up from terrifying nightmares in the middle of the night.
If her owner is crying, Kona is right there to gently lick her face and offer comfort.
She will even jump up and “boop” her owner’s knee with her nose to ground her in reality.
Going Into Work Mode
The moment Kona’s service vest goes on, her entire demeanor shifts.
“The second you put her vest on her, she goes into a work mode. Her eyes are on me,” her owner explained.
Despite the serious nature of her job, Kona is the happiest little working dog.
When she sees her leash, she runs right up, ready to tackle the day—though she always expects to be paid in plenty of treats.
Conquering the Crowds
With Kona by her side, the world is no longer a terrifying place.
Where the owner goes, Kona goes, and they operate as one seamless unit.
They even started taking trips to Disneyland, a place that used to trigger massive anxiety due to the large crowds.
Having Kona there provides a much-needed focal point, helping her owner manage her anxiety and actually enjoy the magic of the park.

The trips to Disneyland aren’t just therapeutic for the owner; they are a blast for Kona, too.
The sweet service dog absolutely loves interacting with the park characters.
During one special visit, Cruella was incredibly welcoming, and Kona was completely smitten.
“She’s brought me out of my shell in ways I can’t even explain,” her owner shared. “She gave me independence I did not have before.”
