During a routine community outreach trip to hand out dog food, a Georgia rescuer stumbled upon a dog living a heartbreaking life at the end of a chain. What happened next gave the suffering pup a second chance at happiness.
A Heartbreaking Discovery
Some rescues happen when you least expect them.
Audray Luck, an animal rescuer with Luck’s Rescue, was simply doing community outreach and passing out dog food when she spotted a heartbreaking sight.
A dog was living out her days attached to a heavy chain, and her physical condition was rapidly deteriorating.
“I felt so bad for her, seeing her on that chain in the condition she was in,” Audray recalled. “She was suffering, and I knew she needed out of there.”
Pleading for a Better Life
Knowing she couldn’t just walk away, Audray decided to take immediate action.
Before she could bring the suffering dog to safety, she had to navigate a delicate conversation with the people who owned her.
Hoping for a miracle, Audray asked the owners if they would be willing to surrender the dog to her care.
To her immense relief, they said yes, opening the door to a brand new life for the weary pup.
A Crucial Vet Visit
Audray didn’t waste a single second once she had permission to take the dog.
“So, the very next day, we went back and got her and brought her straight to our vet,” she shared.
For the first time in a long time, the dog was going to walk past the short length of her chain.
More importantly, she was finally going to get professional help for the painful, gnarly wounds covering her body.
The Healing Begins
At the clinic, the veterinary team immediately got to work assessing the dog’s condition.
They provided her with all the necessary medications to soothe her skin and start the healing process.
The relief was almost instantaneous, and the sweet dog quickly realized she was in safe hands.
As she started to feel better, her rescuers noticed a beautiful sight: a gentle, happy tail wag.
Arriving at a Foster Home
With her initial medical treatments underway, it was time for the next big step in her journey.
The rescue team transported her to a loving foster home where she could decompress.
Instead of the hard dirt and heavy metal chain she was used to, she was greeted with soft spaces and gentle voices.

“It was so special to watch her run around that yard, experiencing the fresh grass, smelling everything,” Audray noted.

Now safe and loved, the beautiful dog was given the perfect new name: Cinnamon.
As the days passed, Cinnamon’s true personality began to shine through the pain of her past.
Audray instantly fell in love with the sweet, energetic dog she was becoming.
Seeing Cinnamon bound across the yard with a bright smile made every challenge of the rescue completely worth it.
The Long Road Ahead
While Cinnamon is finally safe and happy, her medical journey is far from over.
She faces a long road to full recovery due to her severe skin issues and a positive test for heartworm.
Despite the intensive treatments ahead, Cinnamon now has a dedicated team of lifesavers at Luck’s Rescue cheering her on.
