California Woman Had Fostered 46 Dogs, But Nothing Prepared Her For The Sound Coming From One Dog’s Bed

Spud survived blunt force trauma on the streets of Mexico. Now, this sweet dog is getting a second chance at life in California and showing his foster family just how resilient a rescue pup can be.

When a rescue dog named Spud first arrived in foster care, his physical condition told a story of immense hardship. He and his brother had been living on the unforgiving streets of Mexico, doing whatever they could to survive.

He was severely underweight and covered in fleas and ticks. But the most alarming part of his appearance was his face.

Spud had suffered a severe injury to his snout. His nose was broken, leaving his foster mom to navigate the initial shock and sorrow of seeing what he had been through.

While no one knows the exact details of Spud’s past, his rescuers have a strong theory about how he was injured.

They suspect he suffered blunt force trauma to his face, likely while he was just trying to find a meal in someone’s trash.

Despite the cruelty he faced, Spud’s spirit remained remarkably intact. He just needed someone to give him a safe place to heal.

Spud’s foster mom is no stranger to helping dogs in desperate need. Having fostered 46 dogs—18 of them being street dogs—she knew exactly how to handle his fragile state.

“Once I saw him, I knew he was meant to be at our sanctuary,” she explained.

She promised the sweet boy that they would get his nose fixed, clear his body of parasites, and finally help him feel good again.

Warming Up Quickly

Whenever you take in a street dog, it’s impossible to know how they will react to a home environment. His foster mom expected him to be terrified of people at first.

Instead, Spud adjusted shockingly fast. It was as if he understood he was finally safe.

“The second he knows that you don’t want to hurt him, he totally warms up to you,” his foster mom shared.

The Sweetest Little Duckling

As Spud settled in, his true personality began to shine. He proved to be incredibly goofy and lovable.

He quickly attached himself to his rescuer, following her around the house like a tiny, devoted duckling.

He even developed a sweet response to affection. When scratched behind the ears, Spud leans in and makes a sound that resembles a cat purring.

A Very Loud Quirk

Because of his severe facial injury, Spud has had to learn how to breathe without the normal use of his nose.

This unique adaptation has resulted in a very loud quirk: Spud is an aggressive snorer. In fact, his snoring is so loud it can wake the entire house.

His foster mom used to think she could never live with a snoring dog, but Spud changed her mind entirely. “I love hearing it now because it means he’s resting,” she said.

Making Friends Everywhere

Spud hasn’t let his past trauma stop him from loving the world around him. He is always eager to make new friends.

Whether he is meeting children, other dogs, or even cats, his tail is always wagging.

He brings a special kind of joy to everyone he meets, constantly making the people around him smile and giggle with his goofy antics.

Hope for a Clear Breath

Today, Spud is getting stronger with every passing day. His foster family is actively fundraising to get him the specialized surgery he needs.

They are hopeful that a surgeon can create a plan to help him breathe properly through his nose once again.

For now, his foster mom remains in awe of his forgiving heart. “I’m so inspired by the way that everything that’s happened to him in the past, he doesn’t let it affect him at all,” she said, grateful to be part of his incredible journey.
