California Rescuers Bring Home A Lonely Kitten And Watch A Gentle Dog Step Into The Mama Role

A lonely Califronia kitten found without a family gets a second chance at love when a sweet dog decides to take him under her wing, eventually teaching him how to care for others.

A Heartbreaking Discovery

He was all by himself when he was first discovered in California.

His rescuers looked all around the area, desperately hoping to find any siblings or his mother nearby.

Sadly, they couldn’t find anyone else.

The tiny kitten was completely alone in the world, but his luck was about to change in the most unexpected way.

Stepping Up To Motherhood

That is when a sweet dog named Kona stepped into the picture.

She took one look at the tiny feline and immediately decided she would be his new mama.

Another pet in the home, Grizzly, also accepted the tiny newcomer without hesitation.

As his owner noted, Grizzly’s attitude was simply, “Yup, this is my new roommate.”

The Wet Mohawk

The kitten, now named Tuna, was super excited and jumping all around his new home.

Instantly, he went right under Kona for comfort and protection.

His owner knew right then that this dog and this cat were going to be best friends.

For the first couple of weeks, Tuna always had a wet “mohawk” on his head because Kona was constantly licking and cleaning him like a true mother.

Endless Patience

As Tuna grew more comfortable, his playful kitten energy really began to shine.

He was always trying to pounce on his much larger canine mom.

He would grab her tail and give her gentle little nibbles during playtime.

Kona was incredibly patient and did not mind his playful antics at all.

Learning From The Best

Time passed, and the family eventually decided to foster a new litter of kittens.

Kona was just as gentle and loving with the new babies as she had been with Tuna.

Surprisingly, Tuna stepped right up to help care for them, too.

He treated the tiny fosters exactly the same way Kona had treated him when he was a lonely orphan.

A Perfect Match

There was no one else Tuna could have learned that kind of gentle love from.

Both animals proved to be incredibly affectionate and caring with every new foster that came through the door.

For a kitten who started out with absolutely nothing, he ended up with the best family he could have ever asked for.
