Illinois Woman Brings Home Her Dream Puppy, But His Giant Adolescent Phase Turns Her World Upside Down
An Illinois woman always dreamed of raising a St. Bernard, but when Midas hit his adolescent years, she suddenly found herself sharing a home with a stubborn, muddy giant.
A Lifelong Dream Realized

For years, she had held onto a specific wish for her future family.
“Someday I’m going to get a puppy St. Bernard,” she would always tell herself.
When the day finally came and she saw Midas for the first time, all the pieces simply fell into place.
It felt like it was entirely meant to be.
He was right there in front of her, and in her eyes, he was absolutely perfect.
The Center Of The Family

The night she finally brought Midas home, the whole family gathered to welcome him.
From that very first evening, he established himself as the undeniable center of their world.
He loved to jump up on everyone to greet them, eager for attention and affection.
Despite his growing size, he quickly proved to be a huge “mamma’s boy.”
The bond between them was instant, but the real test of their relationship was yet to come.
The Adolescent Growth Spurt

As Midas entered his adolescent years, everything began to change.
His growth was explosive, and he quickly became much bigger and far stronger than his mom.
She suddenly found herself looking at a dog that seemed more like a wild animal.
“Sometimes it looks like a lion walking through my house,” she admitted.
She began to wonder how she was going to manage raising a dog entirely by herself that was larger than she was.
Stubborn Streaks And Muddy Sheets

With his massive size came a massive, stubborn personality.
When it was time for a walk, Midas would often just lay on the floor and stare at her in defiance.
He also had absolutely no concept of how dirty he was after playing outside.
Without a second thought, he would bound into the bedroom and jump right up onto her pristine white sheets.
She lovingly referred to these chaotic, messy incidents as his “Beethoven moments.”
Putting In The Hard Work

People often assume that St. Bernards are just big, sleepy teddy bears.
Midas quickly proved that stereotype to be completely untrue.
His mom realized she had to keep on top of his training before his size and stubbornness completely took over their lives.
They began doing lots of intensive work together to establish boundaries.
It was a challenging process, but giving up on her dream dog was never an option.
Finding Their Rhythm

All the hard work and patience eventually began to pay off.
Today, she has full control over the giant dog using just her voice and her actions.
When she tells him to stop, he actually listens and obeys.
He has even developed a gentle way of asking for things, resting his massive head on objects throughout the house when he wants something.
Through consistent effort, the stubborn adolescent transformed into a genuinely good dog.
A Giant Dog In A Small World

Despite his incredible size, Midas still has absolutely no idea that he is a gigantic dog.
He constantly tries to squeeze his massive frame into small spaces or wedge himself between two people on the couch.
If the car door is open, he’ll jump right in, and there is no stopping him.
He often gets stuck and knows it, but his enthusiasm never stops him from trying again.
When they visit his grandma’s house, his sprawling body takes up half of her floor.
The Biggest Blessing

Raising a giant breed is not for the average person who doesn’t want to put in the effort to train a dog.
His mom wants people to be aware of just how much work it truly takes.
But for her, every single moment of frustration and training has been worth it.
He brings smiles everywhere he goes, and his cute puppy dog eyes melt her heart.
When he looks at her, she almost knows exactly what he’s thinking, proving that Midas is, without a doubt, her biggest blessing.
