Deaf Pennsylvania Dog Needed A Place To Belong After Her New Housemate Wouldn’t Accept Her
A Peaceful Slumber

To keep from startling the sleeping pup, her foster mom has developed a brilliant and loving routine.
Whenever she needs to wake Sky up, she simply places her hand gently in front of the dog’s nose.
As soon as Sky’s keen sense of smell picks up the familiar scent, her eyes flutter open.
Without fail, every single time she wakes up, Sky is overwhelmingly excited to see her favorite person, greeting her with sleepy wiggles and tail wags.
A Fateful Shelter Meeting

This beautiful morning routine almost never happened.
Eight and a half months ago, Sky’s foster mom spotted her waiting in a local animal shelter.
Looking at the hopeful dog, the rescuer was immediately struck by a powerful sense of familiarity.
Sky reminded her so much of her own beloved deaf dog, Jasmyne, that she simply couldn’t bear the thought of leaving her behind in a kennel.
An Unexpected Hurdle

Doing what any passionate animal lover would do, she officially stepped up to foster Sky and brought her home to her farm.
She hoped the new dog would seamlessly blend into her pack.
Unfortunately, things didn’t go exactly as planned once they walked through the front door.
Her resident deaf dog, Jasmyne, did not get along with the new arrival, making it very clear that she wasn’t comfortable sharing her indoor space.
The Barn Retreat

Faced with a dilemma, the foster mom had to find a way to keep both dogs safe, happy, and entirely stress-free.
She came up with an incredible solution right on her own property.
Next to the main farmhouse sat a beautifully refinished barn that she had previously restored into a cozy, livable space.
For now, until her forever family comes along, Sky gets to live like a queen in her very own private barn house.
Never Truly Alone

Even though Sky sleeps in her own building, she is far from isolated.
Her foster mom makes sure to spend many hours throughout the day with her, starting bright and early at 6:30 in the morning.
Sky is always waiting eagerly at the door, ready to start the day’s adventures.
Together, they head out to explore local hiking trails, giving the energetic dog plenty of time to sniff and roam in nature.
A Social Butterfly

Beyond their morning hikes, Sky is heavily involved in her foster mom’s daily routine.
She frequently tags along to run errands around town.
Despite her hearing impairment, Sky is incredibly outgoing and absolutely loves to meet new people wherever she goes.
Every errand is just another excuse for this friendly pup to make a new friend and soak up some extra pets.
Learning To Communicate

To ensure Sky thrives in the human world, her foster mom practices sign language with her every single day.
They work on visual cues that allow Sky to understand exactly what is being asked of her.
Her foster mom notes that teaching hand signals is actually a brilliant idea for any dog owner, whether their pet can hear or not.
Since most dogs lose a degree of hearing as they age, pairing verbal cues with hand signals early on ensures you never lose communication with your best friend.
Waiting For The Perfect Match

As much as her foster mom would love to keep her forever, she knows it isn’t possible.
She already has a full plate caring for her own special-needs dogs, and she always needs to keep space open to foster the next dog in crisis.
Because of this, she is actively searching for the perfect forever home for Sky.
Whoever ends up adopting this wonderful, resilient dog is in for a treat, as her foster mom promises that Sky is going to completely change their lives for the better.
