In Georgia, River loved the dogs so much that she even started climbing into their crates.

Her parents would find her happily sitting inside, completely content in the dogs’ safe spaces.

When her parents tried to redirect her, they had to gently remind her that she didn’t actually like regular baby food, let alone kibble.

It was clear that River felt she was just another member of the furry pack.

Once River learned to walk, she became much sneakier around the house.

She carefully studied how the crate latches worked and figured out how to pop them open.

Before long, her parents caught her letting the dogs out whenever she wanted.

Even when it was time for bed, River was always busy checking on her four-legged siblings.

A Careful Introduction

The family had actually prepared for River’s arrival long before she was born.

For the first few months, they kept a baby gate up so the dogs could safely smell and hear the new baby.

They took the introduction process very slowly to ensure everyone was comfortable.

Because of this careful setup, the dogs did a wonderful job being gentle with her, though they were never left unattended together.

Out of all the dogs in the house, a big, friendly pup named Roman quickly became River’s absolute favorite.

Roman was known in the family as a gentle, clumsy goofball.

He took his role as a big brother very seriously, always keeping a watchful eye on the little girl.

Whenever River tried to wander off, Roman would gently try to herd her back to safety.

When River first started talking, she couldn’t quite pronounce Roman’s name.

Instead, she called him “Bada,” a sweet nickname that immediately stuck.

Even as she grew older and learned to talk perfectly well, the nickname remained.

You could often hear her calling out, “Here, Bada!” as she looked for her best friend.

A Stuffed Animal Twin

River’s love for Roman was so strong that her family got her stuffed animals of all the dogs.

Roman’s plush twin was always the very first one she would go to get.

The stuffed toy was nearly as big as she was, making it quite a sight to see her carry it.

She went through a long phase where she demanded that the giant stuffed “Bada” go everywhere with her.

By the time she turned two, River’s behavior began to beautifully shift.

Instead of trying to act like a dog herself, she decided she wanted to take care of them.

She started helping her parents put food into the bowls, carefully making sure dogs like Kai Kai got their meals.

She would gently encourage them, telling Roman what a good boy he was as he ate.

Welcoming Foster Puppies

Recently, the family made a major change in their home life.

They decided they didn’t want to breed anymore, and instead poured their hearts into fostering rescue puppies.

This brought a whole new dynamic to the household, filling it with young dogs needing a second chance.

For River, it was an exciting opportunity to meet and love even more animals.

River proved to be an absolute natural with the new rescues.

Her parents loved watching her fall in love with the foster puppies, noting how incredibly gentle she was with them.

Despite being so young, she respects their space and knows how to read their body language.

She hands out treats whenever she can, ensuring the new puppies learn that kids can be wonderful, empathetic best friends.
