After being abandoned in the sweltering heat, a sweet dog named Pickles found comfort in her new mom’s arms. But when a new man entered the picture, this rescue pup revealed her true, sassy colors.
Abandoned In The Sweltering Heat
The summer heat can be unforgiving, especially for an animal left entirely defenseless.
That was the harsh reality for a sweet dog who was discovered tied to a pole right in the middle of a brutal heatwave.
She was only about a year old, and it was clear to rescuers that she had recently had babies.
Alone and exhausted, she was eventually brought to the ACC, a local animal shelter in New York City, to wait for a second chance.
Chocolate Eyes Over The Edge
Chelsea was looking for a companion when she decided to visit the New York City shelter.
As she walked past the kennels, one particular dog caught her attention in the sweetest way.
She looked down and saw a pair of little chocolate eyes staring right up at her over the edge of the enclosure.
With her little paws propped up against the door, the dog made an instant connection. Chelsea knew right then that she was sold.
Discovering The Indoor World
Chelsea named her new best friend Pickles and quickly realized the pup had a lot to learn about the world.
She was incredibly curious about her new surroundings, leading Chelsea to believe she had never actually lived indoors before.
Even the ride home was a completely foreign experience. To Pickles, the car felt like a UFO.
Once inside the house, the television became a source of deep confusion. She would stare at the screen, completely mesmerized and puzzled as it played.
A Need For Constant Comfort
Despite her confusion about modern indoor living, Pickles knew exactly what she wanted when it came to affection.
As soon as she laid down for the night, the sweet dog craved 24/7 contact with her new mom.
She would constantly lay her head, or even half of her body, directly on top of Chelsea for comfort.
Some nights, Pickles refused to go to sleep unless her nose was pressed completely up against Chelsea’s face.
Surviving Medical School Together
The bond between the two grew stronger with every passing day.
For Chelsea, the absolute best part of her day was coming home to a dog waiting to wrap her arms around her for a big hug and kisses.
Pickles became an emotional anchor during a very stressful time in Chelsea’s life.
In fact, the affectionate rescue dog is a big reason Chelsea was able to make it through the grueling end of medical school and start her residency.
Enter The Boyfriend
About three months into their life together, Chelsea started dating someone new.
Pickles had just gotten fully settled into her routine, so introducing a new person into the mix was a big step.
However, Chelsea didn’t need to worry. Pickles took to the new man instantly.
There was never a single moment of doubt from the dog, who immediately decided this new human was acceptable.
The Ultimate Boyfriend Stealer
It didn’t take long for Pickles to make her true intentions known.
The very first time the boyfriend came over, Pickles popped her little leg onto his leg and slowly scooched closer and closer.
Before long, she was basically laying entirely on top of him.
She quickly earned the title of “boyfriend stealer,” making sure to always sit directly in between the couple so they couldn’t actually touch.
A Sassy Girl Who Knows What She Wants
Looking back, Chelsea laughs at how the quiet little dog in the shelter completely fooled her.
Pickles is full of sass and actively tries to make Chelsea jealous by soaking up all the boyfriend’s attention.
If she feels the boyfriend is giving Chelsea too much attention, she isn’t afraid to voice her disapproval with a little yell.
The dog who was once left tied to a pole in the heat has now claimed the best spot on the couch. They are two peas in a pod, and as Chelsea admits, that’s definitely Pickles’ boyfriend now.
