North Carolina Dog’s Microchip Led Shelter Staff To His Family, But Their Answer Was Crushing
Fible lost everything he knew when his former family decided they didn’t want him back. Thankfully, a North Carolina foster couple gave him the time and space he needed to learn how to trust again.
A Heartbreaking Rejection
When a lost dog is brought into a county shelter, finding a microchip usually means a happy reunion is just around the corner. For a sweet dog named Fible, that tiny chip held a much sadder truth.
The shelter staff scanned him and successfully contacted the people he belonged to. Unfortunately, the family made it clear that they did not want to claim him.
Fible suddenly found himself alone in a loud, unfamiliar kennel environment. He had lost his home, his family, and everything that was familiar to him in the blink of an eye.
Too Cute To Resist
Thankfully, Fible’s story didn’t end in that county shelter. An animal advocate named Melissa saw him and immediately knew she had to help.
“He was too cute to resist,” Melissa recalled. She and her husband, Eric, decided to step up and offer the heartbroken dog a temporary safe haven.
The couple drove to the shelter, picked him up, and brought him back to their house to foster him. They hoped a quiet home environment would help him decompress.
Searching For The Past
Despite being safe, Fible’s transition into foster care wasn’t instantly easy. For the first day or two, he remained incredibly nervous in his new surroundings.
Melissa noticed that Fible seemed deeply sad. He would constantly look around the room as if he was searching for something he was missing.

“He completely turned around,” Melissa shared. “When you have a dog that’s scared and then suddenly they love you, it’s a very sweet feeling.”
Joining The Pack
Once Fible realized he was truly safe, his entire personality blossomed. He was no longer the sad, shut-down dog who had arrived from the shelter.
He began showing incredible amounts of affection to his foster parents. Fible also gained the confidence to start playing with the couple’s other dogs.
The little dog quickly transformed into a “Velcro dog.” If Melissa or Eric were moving from room to room doing chores, Fible was right there following behind them.
A Win For Foster Dad
Fible’s bond with Eric only grew stronger as the days passed. Once he started to trust his foster dad, he was totally devoted to him.
Fible wanted nothing more than to share kisses and cuddles with Eric. It was a special connection that brought a lot of joy to the household.
Melissa noted that this deep bond was a major “win” for her husband. Usually, the resident dogs in their home tend to prefer her over Eric.
A Brave New Beginning
Looking back on their journey, Melissa couldn’t understand why anyone would refuse to reclaim such a perfect, loving companion. She marveled at how brave Fible had been after losing everything familiar to him.
“I think that led to him making a turnaround really quickly,” she explained. His courage allowed him to heal and prepare for his next chapter.
Just a few weeks ago, Fible’s foster journey came to a beautiful end when he was officially adopted. Today, he is doing incredibly well and is finally having the time of his life with a family who will never let him go.
