Texas Dog Weighed Only 25 Pounds, But His Reaction To A First Belly Rub Changes Everything
When a severely emaciated Texas dog named Kane was surrendered to a county shelter, his foster mom was brought to tears. But watching him experience love for the first time made the slow journey to recovery completely worth it.
A Heartbreaking Surrender

When a dog named Kane was surrendered to a local Texas county animal shelter, the staff was stunned by his condition.
The sweet pup was extremely underweight and in very poor health. He was very hungry and desperately searching for any nourishment he could find.
When Kane arrived at the shelter, he weighed just 25 pounds. For a dog of his size and breed mix, his expected weight was closer to 80 pounds.
Brought To Tears

It takes a special kind of person to step up for a dog in such a fragile state.
Thankfully, a dedicated foster mom welcomed Kane into her home to give him the intensive care he needed.
“I’ve met skinny dogs before, but I was brought to tears by how bony he was,” his foster mom recalled.
The Magic Of A First Belly Rub

Despite his heartbreaking past, Kane was incredibly gentle.
When he first settled into his foster home, it became very clear that he had never experienced basic affection. He had never even had a simple belly rub.
One evening, while they were just sitting together watching TV, his foster mom started gently petting his stomach.
A Look Of Pure Joy

The moment her hand rubbed his belly, Kane’s entire demeanor shifted.
“The look on his face was like, ‘Oh my gosh, that feels so good,'” his foster mom shared.
It was a small, quiet moment, but it marked the beginning of a beautiful transformation for the rescue pup.
Experiencing The World

With his foster family by his side, Kane started to learn what it meant to be a cherished pet.
“Obviously, it’s fun to spoil dogs, but to see them experiencing things for the first time is just so magical,” his foster mom explained.
They began taking him on special outings to safely expose him to the world he had missed out on.
Brunch And Farmer’s Markets

Kane’s social calendar quickly filled up with fun, dog-friendly activities.
His foster family took him out to brunch for the very first time, showing him how to relax on a patio.
They even brought him along to the local farmer’s market, where he could take in all the new sights and smells.
A Slow But Steady Recovery

“It was a really slow process before I really started to notice any changes in his weight,” his foster mom noted.
But after more than two months of consistent meals and dedicated care, the hard work finally started to pay off.
Filling Out And Thriving

Today, Kane is looking much more like the strong, healthy dog he was always meant to be.
His foster mom says she is finally seeing him fill out.
“When we pet him, it feels like he’s got more fat on his bones,” she said with relief.
Waiting For The Perfect Family

As his body healed, his true personality began to shine through.
Seeing his confidence and playfulness grow has been a joy for his foster family. Now, Kane is officially up for adoption.
His foster family is surprised he hasn’t found his forever home yet, but they know the perfect match is out there. Their ideal family is simply someone who will love him unconditionally and continue to spoil him for the rest of his life.
