Texas Dog Wakes Her Mom In The Middle Of The Night, But She Isn’t Asking To Go Outside
A rescued pup named Lucy not only overcame her own difficult past, but stepped up to gently guide her senior dog brother through his daily struggles with dementia.
A Quick Change Of Heart

It all started with a simple post from a local city shelter. A sweet dog named Lucy was up for adoption, and her photo immediately caught one woman’s eye.
She showed the picture to her husband, asking if they could bring the dog home. His initial response was a firm “no.”
But that resistance didn’t last long. Just an hour later, he completely changed his tune and asked, “Are we going to meet her tomorrow?”
A Forever Sleepover

The couple didn’t have to wait long to see if Lucy was a good fit for their family. Her foster parents brought her over to the house for a meet-and-greet.
From the moment she walked through the door, it was clear she belonged there. In fact, she never left.
Lucy had officially found her forever home, but she still had to meet the man of the house: a senior dog named Domino.
An Overeager Welcome

Domino, a 14-year-old resident pup, had been adopted from the exact same shelter 13 years prior. When he first met his new sister, his reaction was priceless.
His mom joked that he acted like an older gentleman trying to charm someone completely out of his league. He was overwhelmingly excited, greeting her with an eager, “Oh my god, hi, hi, hi!”
His mom had to step in and tell the enthusiastic senior to calm down. But Domino was just thrilled to have a new friend.
Healing Lucy’s Past

While Lucy’s future was now bright, her past remained a mystery. Her new mom suspects she was dumped because of her severe allergies, which had caused hair loss, itching, and ear infections.
To help her heal, her mom started cooking her fresh meals every single day. Lucy now dines on a healthy diet of tilapia, vegetables, and fruit.
The special diet worked wonders, stopping all of her allergy symptoms in their tracks. Her husband even jokes that his wife should meal prep for him, noting how muscular and healthy Lucy has become.
The Struggles Of Getting Older

As Lucy grew stronger, Domino was facing his own challenges. At 14 years old, the sweet senior dog has developed dementia.
His condition means that he sometimes gets confused and disoriented. At night, especially when it’s dark out, he can easily get a little lost in his own home.
It is a heartbreaking reality of loving a senior pet. But thankfully, Domino doesn’t have to navigate the darkness alone.
A Built-In Caregiver

Without any training or prompting, Lucy took it upon herself to become Domino’s personal caretaker. She watches over him with incredible patience and love.
When it gets dark and Domino needs to go outside, Lucy goes out with him. She stays right by his side to make sure he feels safe.
Whenever they are out in the yard together, she constantly looks back to check on her older friend. She never lets him wander too far out of her sight.
The 4 A.M. Wake-Up Call

Lucy’s dedication to her brother truly shines in the middle of the night. Recently, at 4:00 in the morning, she appeared at her mom’s bedroom door, just staring at her.
Her mom woke up, assuming Lucy needed a bathroom break. But when she opened her eyes, she saw Domino standing in the middle of the room, looking completely lost and confused.
Once her mom was awake to help him outside, Lucy simply went back to bed. She had literally woken up her mom just to get help for her brother.
Mending Broken Hearts

Having Lucy around has completely transformed Domino’s golden years. Thanks to his sweet, thick-faced little sister, he is noticeably happier and more playful.
But Domino isn’t the only one who was saved. The family had lost their “soul dog” in February, leaving a massive void in their lives.
When Lucy walked through their doors, she brought the light back into their home. As her mom beautifully puts it, this gentle rescue dog managed to fix the hole in her heart, and the hole in Domino’s heart, too.
