When a sweet puppy named Junie found herself in need of a home, her path wasn’t easy. She had to watch her siblings leave one by one while she waited for someone to choose her.
A Rough Start on the Freeway
Junie’s life began in a terrifying way.
She was one of four puppies in a litter that was abandoned on the side of a busy freeway. The tiny dogs were left completely defenseless inside a cardboard box.
Thankfully, a passing veterinarian spotted the box and pulled over. The vet picked up the litter, gave them the medical care they needed, and connected with a local rescue to help them find homes.
Always the Bridesmaid
Once they were safe, the puppies were put up for adoption.
One by one, Junie’s siblings were chosen by loving families. But for some reason, Junie was the last of her litter to get adopted.
The rescue would take her to adoption events outside of pet stores. People would stop, pet her, and talk about how cute she was, but no one ever committed to taking her home.
The Foster Shuffle
Because she had to wait so long, Junie didn’t have much stability.
She was bounced around between several short-term foster homes. She never knew where she was going to sleep from one month to the next.
Before finally finding her forever family, her longest stay had been just a month and a half with one foster. The constant shuffling left her feeling unsure of her surroundings.

Eventually, a woman named Olivia and her husband decided to give Junie the permanent home she deserved.
When Junie first arrived at their house, the trauma of her past was evident. Olivia could tell the sweet dog was a little nervous.

Olivia jokes that she often feels like she is intruding on a romantic moment when she walks into the living room. Her husband will pull the dog to his chest, and Junie will immediately cover him in kisses.
“She gets this longing look in her eyes and will just look at him like he is the sun and the moon,” Olivia explained.
The Center of Attention
Because her husband dotes on the dog constantly, Olivia has accepted her role as the “bad guy” of the house.
Junie has even become a little protective of her favorite human. If kids visit the home, Junie will act confused, demanding her dad’s attention as if to say, “I’m the child here.”
