One Photograph Sent A Grieving Washington Woman On An Eleven-Hour Drive To Seattle

Sabrina’s racing career ended over a minor muscle issue, leaving her unwanted for months. Then, a single photograph reached a Washington woman who had sworn off dogs forever.

A Career Cut Short

Lee was completely heartbroken. In just three and a half years, she had endured the devastating loss of three beloved Dobermans.

The grief was so heavy that she made a quiet promise to herself. She never thought she would allow another dog into her life again.

But grief often works in mysterious ways, and the universe had a different plan for her healing. Miles away, a sweet dog with a broken past was desperately waiting for someone exactly like Lee.

Sabrina was a greyhound whose racing days ended abruptly. She suffered from what is known as a dropped muscle.

A muscle that was supposed to sit near the top of her leg had shifted down toward the bottom. While the condition didn’t cause her any pain or discomfort, it was a dealbreaker in the racing world.

The slight physical change took two or three seconds off her track time. Because she could no longer compete at top speeds, her career was instantly over.

Passed From State To State

With her racing days behind her, Sabrina’s future became uncertain. In October 2018, she ended up in a greyhound clearinghouse in Birmingham, Alabama, meant for unwanted dogs.

She sat there waiting for a family, but month after month passed without any luck. By April 2019, she was finally moved out of the facility.

Her journey to find a home was far from over. She was shipped all the way to Ohio, and eventually transported across the country to an adoption agency in Seattle, Washington.

The Photograph That Changed Everything

While Sabrina was waiting in Seattle, Lee was away on a holiday, still carrying the weight of her past losses. Then, someone sent her a photograph of the waiting greyhound.

Lee couldn’t explain it, but she was instantly drawn to the dog’s face. She and her family just kept looking at Sabrina’s picture, feeling an undeniable pull.

The connection was so strong that they decided to cut their vacation short. They packed up and drove 11 hours straight just to meet her.

Ignoring The Warnings

When Lee finally arrived at the Seattle adoption agency, Sabrina didn’t hesitate. The moment the greyhound saw them, she leapt right into their laps.

She was incredibly funny and full of life, but the adoption staff had reservations. They warned Lee, saying, “Oh, you don’t want her. She’s too active.”

But Lee wasn’t deterred by the warning at all. She simply replied that active was fine, and declared that Sabrina was exactly the dog they wanted.

Finding Her Joyful Stride

Once Sabrina settled into her new home, her true personality began to shine. She proved to be a bubbly, goofy, and incredibly friendly companion.

She loved greeting all the neighbors and had an absolutely great personality. When she walked down the street, she didn’t just step—she pranced because she was so genuinely happy.

Despite the agency’s warnings about her energy, she wasn’t the type of greyhound who needed four-hour hikes. After a 30 to 45-minute walk, she was happily back in bed, sleeping with her arms and legs straight up in the air.

Facing Unkind Strangers

The transition to a normal life wasn’t without its awkward moments. When Lee first brought Sabrina home, the retired racer was still very skinny.

People would sometimes drive by, roll down their car windows, and shout hurtful things like, “Why don’t you feed your dog?”

But Sabrina never let the harsh words bother her. Even if a stranger was yelling, she would have been perfectly friendly and happy to meet them if they had just stopped to say hello.

An Unspoken Emotional Connection

Lee and Sabrina quickly developed a very interesting and deeply respectful relationship. Both of them were naturally independent, but they found themselves profoundly connected by emotion.

Sabrina proved to be incredibly polite and careful, never acting intrusive in the house. Yet, she always knew exactly when Lee needed her the most.

If Lee was ever sad, upset, or even exceptionally happy, Sabrina would quietly come over and lay at her feet. She understood human emotion so well that she acted just like a trained therapy dog.

Two Broken Hearts Healed

Every day, Sabrina makes sure Lee knows how much she is loved. When Lee comes home from work, the greyhound wiggles with excitement, offering kisses before happily retreating to her bed.

They spend their time walking beautifully together, enjoying the quiet friendship they have built. Lee had endured so much loss in her life, but this sweet, polite dog helped her find joy again.

Looking back at the day they both took a chance on each other, Lee knows exactly what happened. They were both broken when they met, but Sabrina ultimately saved her.
