A Tiny Addition to a Big Family
Bringing a new pet home is always an adventure, but introducing a tiny kitten to a pack of large dogs requires extra care.
When little Brix first arrived at his California home, his new family knew they had to take things slowly.
The dogs were immediately interested in the new arrival, sniffing around the room where the kitty was kept.
Because Brix was just a “little teeny-tiny kitty” and the dogs were so big, his humans decided to let him meet his canine siblings one on one.
Two Fast Friends
It didn’t take long for Brix to make his first friends in the house.
A dog named Bernoulli absolutely loved the tiny cat and would actively seek him out.
In fact, the humans joked that the easiest way to find Brix was just to look for Bernoulli.
Another dog, Bunsen, was perfectly happy to give the kitten his space, but still loved being around the little guy.
The Skeptical Sibling
While two of the dogs were thrilled with their new feline brother, the third dog, Beaker, was much more guarded.
Beaker’s reaction to the tiny kitten was essentially, “Oh, there’s a cat? Great.”
She wasn’t mean, but she certainly wasn’t rolling out the welcome mat for the tiny intruder.
But Brix wasn’t going to let a little cold shoulder stop him from making a new best friend.
A Stealthy Strategy
Fascinated by the grumpy older sibling, Brix made it his mission to be near Beaker.
Everywhere Beaker went, the tiny kitten would find a spot adjacent to her just to be close.
When Beaker would settle down for a nap on the couch, Brix would launch his stealth mission.
He would sneak up onto the cushions, inch closer, pretend to sleep, and then inch closer again.
The Great Couch Wars
The couch was Beaker’s favorite domain, and she wasn’t about to give up her spot.
The family joked about the ongoing “couch wars” as the tiny kitten tried to claim his territory.
To compromise, Brix figured out a clever loophole to stay near his reluctant sister.
He started sleeping on the back of the couch, resting just above her—technically not in her spot, but still as close as possible.
Finally Accepted
The dynamic perfectly mirrored a pesky little sibling trying to win over an annoyed older sister.
Despite her initial attitude of “stay away from me, you’re gross,” Beaker slowly started to soften.
She didn’t mind when he claimed the nearby dog bed or perched above her head.
