A Nervous Homecoming
Bringing a newborn baby home is a momentous occasion for any family, but it often comes with a healthy dose of anxiety when there’s already a dog in the house.
For one mother, the drive home from the hospital was filled with nervous anticipation about how their dog, Goose, would react to the tiny new arrival.
She knew Goose had a lot of energy, and she was worried that in his excitement, he might jump all over her as soon as she walked through the door.
To play it safe, she had her husband carry their newborn daughter, Ella, inside while she prepared to greet their furry family member.
An Unexpected Gentleness
Instead of the chaotic greeting she had braced herself for, Goose surprised everyone with his calm demeanor.
The mother sat down quietly in her rocker, and Goose simply walked up to her to investigate the new situation.

Whenever Goose walked into the room, Ella would immediately light up and try to go to him.
Her mother noticed early on that Ella was “completely obsessed with Goose from day one,” always excited by his comforting presence.
The Chasing Games
When Ella finally learned to crawl, the dynamic in the house shifted from quiet observation to active play.
Goose would playfully chase her around the floor, always maintaining his remarkable gentleness.
While her parents kept a watchful eye to ensure everyone stayed safe, it was clear that Ella absolutely loved the interaction.
The two of them were quickly becoming inseparable playmates, doing everything together.
Learning by Watching
When Goose was younger, his family had taught him a variety of tricks, including a very disciplined “leave it” command.
They would place a treat directly on his nose, and Goose wouldn’t move a single muscle until he was given the go-ahead.
One day, they decided to show this impressive trick to Ella.
She was absolutely captivated, watching the trick 10 or 15 times and laughing uncontrollably at the sight of the dog balancing the treat.
The Little Caretaker
Ella didn’t just want to watch Goose do tricks; she wanted to be the one to give him the treats.
Even at just 16 months old, she eagerly took on the responsibility of feeding her best friend.
She now feeds him every single meal and loves handing out his daily treats, a routine that Goose happily accepts.
“Goose doesn’t mind,” her mother laughed, amazed by how well the dog takes food from such tiny hands.
A Match Made in Heaven
Today, the toddler and the dog share everything, from waiting together in the bathroom for the bathtub to fill up, to sneaking shared snacks.
The things that Ella loves to do, Goose loves to do right alongside her.
Their mother looks at their incredible bond and calls it “a match made in heaven.”
Watching them grow up together, she knows she made the right choice. “I can’t imagine having a child growing up without a dog in the house,” she said. “It’s just such a beautiful thing to watch.”
