Rejected Florida Dog Waited With A Severe Skin Infection After Her Breeding Plans Fell Apart

After being surrendered by owners who no longer wanted to deal with her medical issues, a sweet dog named Ducky found a soft landing with a dedicated foster family in Florida.

An Uncertain Future

When Ducky first arrived in foster care, she was carrying the heavy weight of rejection. The sweet pup had originally been purchased by a family with plans to breed her for profit.

However, when Ducky developed medical complications, her former owners decided she was no longer worth the effort.

Instead of receiving the care she desperately needed, she was surrendered, leaving her future completely unknown.

Finding A Soft Landing

Fortunately, Ducky’s story didn’t end with her surrender. She was taken in by Lil Rascals Dog Rescue in central Florida, a group dedicated to giving dogs a second chance.

From there, she was placed into the loving foster home of a woman named Colleen.

Despite everything she had been through and the pain she was in, Ducky was ready to embrace her new surroundings.

Addressing The Pain

When Colleen first welcomed Ducky, the pup was suffering from several uncomfortable ailments. She had a severe skin infection that needed immediate attention.

Worse still, she was battling an eye infection compounded by a painful condition where her eyelids turned inward.

The constant irritation meant Ducky needed surgery to finally find relief, which Colleen gently helped her through during her stay.

Immediate Trust

Despite her physical discomfort, Ducky’s spirit remained incredibly gentle. The very first time she met Colleen, she immediately made herself comfortable.

“I think she right off the bat knew we’d help protect her and keep her safe,” Colleen recalled.

The sweet dog just wanted to sit in her foster mom’s lap, soaking up the affection she had always deserved.

Meeting The Pack

Ducky wasn’t the only dog in the house. Colleen’s family included Mako, a five-year-old boy dog who was their very first foster fail, and Kona, a six-year-old rescued girl.

Introducing a new foster dog to an established pack can sometimes be tricky, but Ducky was eager to make friends.

She quickly found her place among the family’s resident pups, though the dynamics were quite funny to watch.

Instant Best Friends

From the moment they met, Ducky and Mako were completely inseparable. The two dogs became immediate best friends.

They spent their days playing together, burning off energy and enjoying each other’s company.

For Ducky, having a playful brother was exactly what she needed to build her confidence as she healed.

A Jealous Sister

While Mako was thrilled with the new addition, Kona wasn’t quite as enthusiastic. The older dog was used to getting all the lap time and felt a bit left out.

Whenever Ducky was cuddled up on Colleen’s lap, Kona would make her displeasure known.

Colleen would often look over to the dining room and see Kona pouting under a chair, staring with the saddest frown.

A Personality Like No Other

As Ducky recovered from her surgery and infections, her true personality began to shine. She proved to be an incredibly joyful companion.

“She is just the most entertaining dog I think we will ever have in our home, in our lifetimes,” Colleen shared.

Whether she was playfully bouncing around or quietly receiving her daily eye drops, Ducky was a constant source of smiles.

The Hardest Part Of Fostering

After two and a half months of love and healing, the day finally came for Ducky to move on. She had found the perfect forever family.

While Colleen was thrilled, she also felt the familiar ache that every foster parent knows.

Her biggest fear was that Ducky might think she was being abandoned again, never realizing that this beautiful goodbye was always the goal.

A Beautiful New Chapter

Despite the bittersweet farewell, Colleen knew Ducky was heading into an amazing life. Her new mom was incredibly kind, and Ducky would even have a new dog best friend waiting for her.

Colleen knew she would miss the sweet pup deeply, perhaps even more than Ducky would miss her.

But as Ducky settled into her forever home, she finally had the safe, loving, and permanent life she had been waiting for all along.
