When a rescue was too full to take in a dog who had been passed around his whole life, a woman mourning her previous pet made a split-second decision to foster him.
A Heartbreaking Ultimatum
Benji had never known what it meant to have a permanent, loving home. For years, his original family had simply used him for breeding, treating him as a commodity rather than a companion.

“He will sell his soul for a carrot,” Katie joked. But despite his immense eagerness, he is incredibly polite about his favorite snacks.
When offered a vegetable, he takes it with the utmost care. Katie says he accepts treats so gently, “like you’re giving him an egg and he can’t break it.”
A Timely Diet Plan
Benji’s love for produce turned out to be a massive blessing in disguise. He suffers from horrible allergies, and his family has been working hard to find the underlying cause.

He might be a daddy’s boy who fights for his spot on the bed—often pushing Katie off in the process—but she knows he still loves her just as much.

Benji has become a beloved figure among many of their neighbors. There is an elderly woman who tends to the local landscaping and absolutely adores him.
She always brings him treats, asks him to sit, and showers him with affectionate head rubs. However, not every interaction in public is so positive.
Unfortunately, there are times when strangers will cross the street to avoid him or give the family dirty looks. Katie admits that seeing people judge him so unfairly is hard to witness.
