A gentle dog named Meisha has taken on the role of a lifetime: becoming a protective, loving mother to a cage full of tiny guinea pigs.
A Very Special Morning Routine
For a sweet Texas dog named Meisha, every single day begins with a very important mission.
The moment she wakes up in the morning, she doesn’t ask to go outside or beg for her breakfast.
Instead, she immediately hops out of bed to check on the smallest members of her family.
She heads straight to the guinea pig enclosure to make sure her tiny friends are safe and sound.
Treating Them Like Her Own Puppies
To Meisha, the little rodents aren’t just pets that share her house.
“She treats the guinea pigs like her puppies,” her owner explained.
She spends her days gently cleaning them and watching them intently while they play.
Sometimes, she even tries to climb into their enclosure, completely unaware that she is far too big to fit inside.

Her owner had to temporarily move the cage into another room in order to clean the area.
When Meisha was let back into the room and saw the empty space, panic set in.
She went into “full mother meltdown mode,” entirely convinced that her precious babies were missing.
A Joyful Reunion
Her owner had to gently guide the frantic dog through the house to help her locate the relocated cage.
“Do you think they’re in one of these rooms?” her owner asked as Meisha searched.
The moment Meisha spotted them, her relief was palpable.
Now, if the guinea pigs are ever moved to a different room, Meisha simply takes herself into that room to resume her watch.

Meisha’s maternal instincts also mean she is fiercely protective of her little flock.
She is especially wary of the family cat, who sometimes wanders a bit too close to the enclosure.
