Frightened Idaho Dog Hides From The World Until Someone Notices Her Little Tail
Heaven was so scared of the world that she was losing her fur from stress. But with patience, love, and a few car rides, this sweet pup finally learned how to smile.
A World Of Fear
When a sweet dog named Heaven first arrived at the shelter, she was absolutely terrified.
It was impossible to know exactly what she had been through before walking through those doors. Rescuers weren’t sure if she had been born as a stray struggling to survive, or if she was part of a dumped litter.
To Heaven, everything around her felt overwhelming and dangerous.
She was a dog who desperately needed someone to show her that humans could be kind.
The Blanket Handoff
Jackie, an animal lover looking to help, stepped in to meet the frightened pup.
Shelter staff gently wrapped Heaven up in a cozy blanket to help her feel secure before handing her over.
As soon as Jackie held the bundled-up dog, she felt a tiny, hopeful sign.
"I immediately felt her little tail wagging and the way she curled into me," Jackie recalled. "That’s the moment I think I really fell in love with her."
Healing The Physical Toll
Once Heaven was in a safe home, Jackie could see the physical toll her past had taken.
One of the major concerns was that the pup had several bald spots where her fur was missing.
It appeared that the intense stress of her previous life had caused her to lose patches of hair.
She also had a condition known as cherry eye, but thankfully, a quick trip to the vet provided an easy fix.
Discovering The Good Life
Slowly but surely, Heaven started to realize she was finally safe.
As she began to understand that she was in a secure and loving spot, Jackie started introducing her to new experiences.
They brought out fun toys, went for exciting car rides, and began showing Heaven the brighter side of the world.
With each passing day, the dog’s goofy, playful personality started to shine through.
A Contagious Smile
About six months after she was adopted, Heaven did something that completely melted Jackie’s heart.
She smiled. It was a genuine, ear-to-ear grin that showed just how happy she was.
"Her smile is contagious," Jackie explained. "People will see her smiling and it’s like they can’t help but smile too."
However, that famous smile fades very quickly if Heaven feels she isn’t getting enough treats or isn’t getting her way.
A Little Kid In A Dog’s Body
Jackie often jokes that Heaven is just like a little kid trapped in a dog’s body.
This is especially true when they visit the local park.
Heaven absolutely loves to be placed in the baby swings, sitting upright just like a human toddler.
She will happily sit there, waiting patiently for Jackie to give her a gentle push.
Overcoming The Past
Despite her happy new life, there was one major hurdle Heaven had to overcome.
She was incredibly afraid of men, leading Jackie to believe she had experienced a traumatic situation in her past.
For a long time, Heaven would get very nervous anytime they were around men she didn’t know.
Jackie spent a lot of time patiently training her through this fear, and today, you would never even know it was something she struggled with.
44 States And Counting
Today, Heaven is truly living her best life.
She and Jackie are rarely apart, having traveled to an incredible 44 different states together.
Heaven is willing to go anywhere and do anything, as long as she gets to be right by Jackie’s side.
"If I’m having a hard day, if I look at her and I see her smiling back, it makes anything feel better," Jackie shared.
