California Family’s Dog Starts Treating Tiny Piglet Differently, And Her Behavior Has Everyone Watching

When a California teenager’s family agreed to foster a tiny piglet for two weeks, they had no idea the little farm animal would start acting just like their dog.

When a local California animal shelter posted a photo of a tiny piglet in need of a home, one mother couldn’t help but show her children. It was the narrator’s freshman year of high school, and the sight of the adorable farm animal was too much to resist.

The siblings knew they had to help. “My brother and I thought, ‘Oh, we have to foster this animal!'” she recalled.

They convinced their parents to let them take the piglet in for a short time. The initial agreement was simple: they would foster the little pig, named Pepper, for just two weeks.

An Instant Connection

But the family quickly realized that Pepper wasn’t just any pig. The moment she arrived at their home, she was introduced to the family’s dog, Betty.

The two animals didn’t need any time to warm up to each other. Pepper and Betty instantly connected and started playing together right away.

It was the beginning of a beautiful and unexpected friendship that would alter the course of the little piglet’s life.

Pepper seemed to look up to Betty in a very special way. She began to mimic the dog’s behaviors, following her everywhere she went.

The little pig would do everything that Betty did, completely blurring the lines between farm animal and house pet. The family would lovingly watch and think, “What are you doing? Like, you’re not a dog.”

“Honestly, maybe Pepper thinks she’s a dog because of Betty,” her owner noted.

A Tearful Plea

As the two-week foster period ticked by, Pepper became deeply integrated into the family’s daily life. The thought of giving her back to the shelter became unbearable for the teenager.

She knew she couldn’t let her new friend go. “I remember I definitely threw a little tantrum and cried and cried and cried and cried and said, ‘We have to keep this pig,'” she recalled.

The family had a big decision to make about the little pig who had stolen their hearts.

It was Pepper’s bright personality and her undeniable bond with Betty that ultimately won the parents over.

Seeing how perfectly she fit into their lives, they decided to make it official. Ultimately, the parents ended up keeping her.

To this day, the sweet pig has never left their ranch, enjoying the safe and loving home she was always meant to have.

Pepper grew up to be an incredibly affectionate pet. Her family notes that she would make a great indoor companion if she wasn’t so muddy all the time.

Despite her messy habits, she makes sure to get her daily affection. If you haven’t seen her for a day, she comes running right up to greet you.

“You could tell that she always wanted to be around us and cuddle,” her owner shared.

The bond between the pig and the dog only grew stronger over the years. The two unlikely best friends even go on outdoor adventures together.

They can often be seen walking side by side on long hikes, exploring the world as a pair.

Betty and Pepper remain as inseparable today as they were during those first two weeks of fostering.

A Caring Heart

Looking back, the family cherishes the huge role Pepper played in their childhood. Her gentle nature completely changed their perspective on farm animals.

“I never knew that pigs had this capacity to be so caring,” her owner shared.

What started as a two-week favor for a local shelter turned into a lifetime of love, proving that family comes in all shapes, sizes, and species.
