Sorrowful California Shelter Dog Kept Resting Her Paws Against The Kennel Door Until A Volunteer Tried Something Unusual
A California shelter dog with deep cuts on her arms had all but given up until a volunteer’s desperate TikTok plea reached a couple who drove hours to save her life.
A Heartbreaking Discovery
California shelters can be overwhelming and lonely places for dogs waiting for a second chance. For one dedicated volunteer, driving to the local shelter to sit outside the kennels and keep the animals company is a regular routine.
But during one visit, a specific California dog caught her eye. The sweet pup had her paws resting outside the kennel door, seeking any comfort she could find.
As the volunteer got closer, she noticed something troubling. The California dog had deep cuts on her arms.
When she would put her arms crossed in the kennel door, it aligned perfectly with where the gashes were, the volunteer noted.
Keeping Her Company
The poor girl had likely been pressing against the metal bars for so long that it had injured her. Seeing the dog in such a sad state completely broke the volunteer’s heart.
She gently spoke to the dog through the kennel, asking, “Hi sweetie, you okay?”
The dog looked back with tired, soulful eyes. She knew, in that moment, that this pup needed a way out before her spirit broke completely.
A Desperate Plea For Help
Knowing this pup needed immediate medical attention and a comfortable home, the volunteer decided to take action.
She pulled out her phone and recorded a video of the dog resting her injured paws on the door.
She put out a desperate plea on TikTok, hoping the right person would see the footage and step up to help.
The 24-Hour Miracle
The power of social media worked its magic almost instantly. Within 24 hours of the video going live, a woman named Colleen saw the heartbreaking footage.
“I actually sent that video to my husband right away,” Colleen recalled. “And I was like, ‘We have to get her.'”
Without hesitation, Colleen and her husband made the long drive up from San Diego to save the injured dog.
A Gentle Bath And A Harsh Reality
Once they got the dog out of the shelter and into a safe, warm environment, the reality of her physical condition set in.
During her first bath at home, Colleen was overcome with emotion. “I could feel every bone in her body,” she shared.
The dog was incredibly sweet, but she was severely underweight and frail from her difficult time before the rescue.
Exhausted But Safe
In those early days, the dog’s energy levels were practically non-existent. Her body had been through so much, and she needed time to heal.
“We would take her outside and play for all of five minutes,” Colleen explained.
Even that short amount of activity left the pup completely exhausted. But for the first time in a long time, she was able to rest in a soft, safe place without pressing against cold metal bars.
Building Up Her Strength
Colleen and her husband dedicated the next couple of weeks to focusing entirely on the dog’s recovery.
They made sure she was eating well, resting often, and slowly building up her physical strength.
As her body healed, her spirit began to shine through. The couple finally started to see her true, joyful personality emerge.
Beautiful First Experiences
Now that she is healthy, her new family is determined to make up for lost time. They take her everywhere they can to show her how wonderful the world can be.
“Taking her everywhere and giving her these first experiences with us is very important,” Colleen said.
Every single day, the sweet dog tries something new, and her family loves learning more about her. From resting her injured paws on a cold kennel door to enjoying a life full of love, she finally has the beautiful forever she deserves.
