Virginia Woman Brings Home A Traumatized Young Dog, But Her First Move Inside The House Breaks Her Heart
Pippa was a young, anxious mother who had been through a lot. When she finally left the Virginia shelter, she was too scared to leave her crate—until a happy-go-lucky rescue brother showed her how to be a dog again.
A Face On A Screen

It started as a simple search online. One day, a local animal lover was casually scrolling through the websites of nearby shelters, just looking at the faces of animals in need.
That was when she came across a dog named Pippa.
There was something about the little dog’s face that immediately grabbed her attention. She just couldn’t stop thinking about her.
A Heartbreaking Past

Pippa’s history was a sad one. She was very young, but she had already been through a lot of trauma before ending up in the shelter system.
Heartbreakingly, the young dog had also recently had babies.
Whatever had happened to her in her past had left a deep mark. She was carrying a heavy emotional weight for such a small pup.
Meeting The Anxious Pup

Unable to get Pippa out of her mind, the woman decided she had to go meet her in person. She drove down to the local shelter to see the dog for herself.
When they finally met, Pippa’s trauma was obvious. She was incredibly shy and highly anxious around her visitor.
Despite the dog’s obvious fear, her new mom spoke softly to her, gently greeting her with a sweet, “Hi, baby.”
Seeking Safety In A Crate

The adoption was finalized, and Pippa was officially on her way to a better life. But the transition to a real home was overwhelming for the frightened dog.
The moment she was brought inside her new house, Pippa instantly ran straight into her dog crate.
She refused to come out. To her new mom, it was a heartbreaking sign that a small, enclosed space was the only kind of safety the dog had ever known.
Maverick Steps In

Fortunately, Pippa wasn’t the only rescue dog in the house. Her new mom already had Maverick, her very first dog adopted from another local shelter.
Maverick was the complete opposite of Pippa. He was a happy-go-lucky dog who just went with the flow of life.
His calm, joyful energy was exactly what the traumatized little dog needed to see.
Learning By Example

Slowly, Maverick’s presence began to work wonders. He helped build Pippa’s confidence just by being himself.
Pippa eventually started coming out of her crate, and her first instinct was to go straight to her new brother. She would just cuddle up right next to him.
From that moment on, the two dogs became completely inseparable.
A Protective Bond

Pippa began to mimic everything Maverick did. If he went to get a bone, she would immediately do the exact same thing.
But Maverick also took on the role of a protector. Whenever Pippa gets nervous and barks at strange noises outside the door, Maverick comes running.
He always checks to make sure nothing is there, clearly looking out for his anxious little sister.
Smiling Every Morning

Today, the two dogs are always playing, and their bond has brought out a side of Pippa no one knew existed. She has a massive personality packed into her little body.
While they are still working through a few lingering fears, Pippa now comes over to her mom every single morning with a big smile on her face.
Watching them lay on top of each other on the bed, their mom knows they were meant to find each other. Maverick understood exactly what she needed, and gave her the second chance she deserved.
