Mississippi dog Manny was small, but his life changed in an instant. A simple fall from his original owners’ bed left him with severe injuries.

The accident was devastating, leaving the little dog partially paralyzed. Unable to care for his new needs, his family made a difficult decision.

They brought him to the Tunica Humane Society in Mississippi to surrender him. The shelter staff knew Manny needed specialized help if he was ever going to walk again.

The Tunica Humane Society quickly reached out to Albert’s Dog Lounge, a rescue organization known for taking on challenging cases.

They explained the situation: a family was surrendering a hurt dog, and they desperately needed a foster who could handle his recovery.

A dedicated foster mom stepped up to the plate. She welcomed Manny into her home, determined to give him the chance he deserved.

When Manny first arrived, the road ahead looked incredibly steep. He still didn’t have much movement in his back end.

But his foster mom saw something special in his eyes. Looking at him, she felt a strong sense of hope.

“I’m seeing signs that you want this,” she thought. “You want to come back from this.” In her heart of hearts, she believed he would recover.

Baby Steps At Home

The foster mom began doing very light therapy with Manny twice a day. She would encourage him to push hard and use his legs around the house.

It was a slow process, filled with gradual baby steps. She understood that professional services were expensive, but she knew there were things she could do at home to help.

She urged others never to give up on dogs with disabilities. With patience and love, she celebrated every small victory Manny achieved.

A Basement Pool Strategy

To take his recovery to the next level, the foster mom got creative. She installed a kiddie pool right in her basement.

This allowed her to do her own water therapy with Manny. She wanted to ensure she could provide the basic necessities without putting too much financial strain on the charity-based rescue.

The homemade pool was a great start, but eventually, they hit a plateau. She realized it was taking a toll on her back, and Manny needed deeper water to truly work his muscles.

Upgrading To Professional Therapy

Knowing he needed more, she enrolled Manny in professional aqua therapy. They checked in for their second session, ready to push his limits.

She believed that encouraging water therapy was one of the best things she did for him. Because of his little legs, they started with very short, five-minute sessions.

Even five minutes was a long time for the exhausted little dog, but he pushed through. The water provided the perfect resistance to rebuild his strength.

As the weeks went by, Manny’s progress was undeniable. He started using both of his back legs in the water.

His endurance improved dramatically. Soon, he was spending 20 to 25 minutes in the pool during his sessions.

He would be exhausted by the time he got out, but the hard work was paying off. His foster mom was amazed at how much the therapy had helped him.

The ultimate goal was to get Manny walking on land again, and he was finally making it happen. He was doing a lot more walking around the house.

His foster mom affectionately described it as a “sloppy walk,” but it was a massive triumph. He was up off his butt end and moving along as best he could.

While he still had a little ways to go, his determination was inspiring. He was proving that his spirit was entirely unbroken.

His foster mom knew it would be incredibly hard to let him go. “How can you not love this little face?” she said, knowing that every ounce of effort she gave him was absolutely worth it.

Manny beat the odds and brought joy to everyone who followed his journey. Sweet, gentle, and kind, he was finally just a happy dog loving life.
