When a dog lover brings home an eight-week-old puppy, they usually expect a bit of growing to happen. They prepare for the eventual transition from tiny paws to adult size.

But for one dedicated dog mom, her adorable new addition just kept growing, and growing, and growing.

Today, her sweet boy weighs more than she does, tipping the scales at a staggering 143 pounds.

Love At First Sight

Two years ago, she met a tiny, wrinkly puppy named Meech. He was only eight weeks old at the time, but he instantly stole her heart.

“When I first met him, I started crying, because he was just the cutest puppy,” she recalled.

She knew from her research that his breed would eventually get large. Meech is a Bullmastiff, blessed with a squishy face inherited from his Bulldog roots.

He Just Never Stopped Growing

As the months passed, the adorable puppy began to sprout up rapidly. It wasn’t long before she found herself marveling at his sheer size.

“I’m like, ‘Oh yeah, he’s really big,'” she shared. But the growth spurts didn’t end there.

Even with all her preparation, the reality of his adult size was a shock. “I don’t think I realized how big he would be,” she admitted.

Now at two years old, Meech is a towering presence who actually outweighs his mom.

Despite his massive frame, Meech has absolutely no concept of his own size. In his mind, he is still that tiny, eight-week-old puppy.

“He’s 143 pounds, but he thinks he’s a lap dog,” his mom explained.

He constantly seeks out physical affection and just wants to be held. To his family, he is nothing more than a giant, lovable baby.

“He thinks he’s 10 pounds,” she joked.

The Struggle With Personal Space

Because he believes he is a tiny lap dog, Meech hasn’t quite mastered the concept of personal boundaries. When guests come over to the house, he gets incredibly overexcited.

He wants to greet everyone with the same enthusiasm he had as a puppy. However, a 143-pound greeting can be a bit overwhelming for visitors.

“I’m trying to teach him not to jump on people because he’s so big, but he doesn’t know personal space,” she said.

Lingering Puppy Energy

At just two years old, Meech is still very much a puppy at heart. He frequently gets sudden bursts of energy and just wants to run around.

These playful moments are hilarious, but they also present a unique physical challenge for his mom.

“Those are the moments that I have a little bit of a hard time keeping control of him,” she confessed.

Managing a dog of his stature requires patience, especially when he decides it’s time to sprint.

Intimidating First Impressions

Out in public, Meech’s massive size often precedes his sweet personality. Strangers are frequently taken aback when they see him walking down the street.

“Honestly, a lot of people are intimidated by him,” his mom noted.

People often assume that a dog of his size and build must be aggressive or dangerous. Once, a woman across the street even yelled out, “Your dog is so intimidating.”

Making Friends At The Dog Park

Despite the fearful reactions he sometimes gets from afar, Meech is on a mission to make friends wherever he goes. The dog park is one of his favorite places to socialize.

But instead of just playing with the other dogs, Meech has his own special routine.

“When we go to the dog park, he goes to all the owners and gets pets from them,” she shared.

He happily wanders from person to person, soaking up all the attention and head scratches he can get.

A Big Gentle Giant

It usually doesn’t take long for people to realize that they have nothing to fear from Meech. Once they see him leaning in for pets, their initial intimidation melts away.

“I think for the most part, people realize he’s not aggressive,” his mom said. “They can see it.”

Beneath his imposing 143-pound exterior is a dog with nothing but good intentions.

To everyone who takes the time to know him, Meech is just the sweetest boy in the world.
