When her future adopter was browsing for dogs online, Lulu’s photo suddenly popped up. “I was like, ‘I have to have her,'” her new mom recalled.

“I think she kind of maybe thought like, ‘Oh, how long am I going to be here for?'” her mom explained. The family worried about how long it would take for her to decompress.

But they gave her space, offering treats like pup cups and speaking to her in gentle, reassuring tones.

In her very first home, Lulu had lived with two little kids and absolutely adored them. That lingering memory became her bridge to trusting her new family.

When she met her new mom’s daughter, an instant, beautiful bond formed. The young girl quickly became Lulu’s ultimate safe place.

Lulu loves the girl so much that she will bark and bark until she is lifted into the daughter’s bed for the night.

Letting Her Personality Shine

As the fear melted away, Lulu’s true, stubborn personality began to emerge. Her mom affectionately notes that it’s “her way or the highway.”

If she is busy doing something, Lulu is always right there supervising. Even with three dog beds in the house, if Lulu wants a specific one, she claims it without hesitation.

“It’s like, ‘Oh my god, like she’s doing things and not letting her past hold her back anymore,'” her mom said with pride.

Conquering The Stairs

Despite her progress, some everyday obstacles still felt insurmountable. Lulu had likely never lived in a home with stairs, making them a terrifying challenge.

Going up was difficult enough, but figuring out how to get downstairs left her completely stuck. Then, one day, she decided she was going to brave the descent.

The entire family gathered around, cheering her on with words of encouragement. “Come on. You got this,” they told her, celebrating her newfound bravery.

Sweet Milestones

Seeing Lulu gain confidence in herself was a joyous experience for everyone in the home. She was transforming into a completely different, comfortable dog.

She finally started letting her mom hold her close. In one particularly touching moment, her mom realized, “This is the first time I’ve actually kissed your little face before.”
