When a new cat-cafe style rescue opened its doors in California, one family decided to stop by for a visit.

They brought along their California dog, Larry, not knowing if he would make any connections with the felines inside.

But almost immediately, one particular cat caught their attention.

Through the glass, the curious feline seemed completely captivated by the visiting dog.

The interaction between Larry and the cat was instantly mesmerizing.

“Wherever we would move, she would move,” Larry’s owner recalled.

The sweet cat wasn’t scared of the dog at all; instead, she seemed eager to engage.

It was as if she had been waiting for a friend just like him to walk by.

For Larry, the feeling was entirely mutual.

The sweet dog was trying his absolute hardest to contain his excitement.

His tail wagged as he realized this new cat actually wanted to play with him.

“Look at him! He wants to play with you, Larry,” his owner said, watching the adorable scene unfold.

A Special Decision

As they watched the two animals interact, Larry’s owner knew they couldn’t just walk away.

“I thought about her, and I was like, ‘This is something really special,'” she explained.

Looking at the hopeful cat, she asked, “Does this mean I have to take you home?”

The answer was a resounding yes. She turned to her dog and announced, “Larry, guess what. We’re bringing home the kitty.”

Unfortunately, they couldn’t take the cat home that exact same day.

They had to wait a few days before the adoption could be finalized.

Larry, however, was already anticipating his new friend’s arrival.

His owner caught him looking out the front window, checking to see if his new kitty was finally there.

When pickup day finally arrived, the excitement in the house was palpable.

They hopped in the car and drove out to the rescue to bring her home.

“He could not be contained. He was so excited,” his owner shared about the car ride.

Larry knew exactly where they were going and who they were going to get.

When they finally arrived back home, the owner made sure to take things slow.

She carried the cat, now named Ruth, into the house and gently warned Larry to be careful.

“She’s tired. She just got home,” she told the eager dog.

She didn’t let Larry do too much on that first day, wanting to give Ruth the space she needed to decompress.

Despite the big transition, Ruth did incredibly well on her first day.

She found her way to the bedroom and bravely jumped right up onto the bed.

Almost immediately, she let out a loud, deep purr that filled the room.

“I really do think that she knew she was home,” her owner noted.

While Ruth was resting in the bedroom, Larry was desperately waiting for his turn to cuddle.

He wanted to be in the room with her immediately.

He would stand at the door and just stare, as if asking, “Are you gonna let me in, or what?”

Interestingly, while Ruth was totally fine with him, it was actually Larry who was a little nervous about getting too close at first.

It didn’t take long for the two to bridge the gap.

Within just two days, Larry was in the bedroom, sleeping peacefully on the bed right next to Ruth.

Larry is naturally gentle and knows he has to be careful not to scare smaller animals.

Now, they are completely inseparable. “Ruth isn’t my cat,” her owner said with a smile. “She’s Larry’s cat. They make each other complete.”
