When a rescue dog named Leia slipped out an open door, her family spent 100 agonizing days searching the woods. Thanks to a dedicated rescue team and an elaborate trap, their heartbreaking search ended with a beautiful reunion.
A Devastating Mistake
Leia’s life started in the bleak conditions of a puppy mill. Fortunately, she was rescued during a raid and given a second chance at happiness.
At just 12 weeks old, she was adopted from a Maryland shelter by a family who instantly fell in love with her gentle spirit. For seven beautiful years, the sweet dog was an adored and cherished member of their household.
Then, on October 11, 2022, everything changed in an instant. Leia’s dad had taken her to visit a neighbor when a visitor accidentally left a door open.
The curious dog simply walked outside. Her family believes she caught the scent of deer in the area and chased after them, vanishing into the unknown.
