New Jersey Couple Brings Home A Dog Returned Twice, Then She Starts Doing Something They’ve Never Seen
After being returned to the shelter twice for being “too hyper,” a former New Jersey street dog finally finds a family who appreciates her unique and joyful personality.
Love At First Sight
When Daniela and her boyfriend went to the shelter, they weren’t sure what to expect. But the moment the staff brought Rubie out, everything changed.
The excited dog ran straight up to Daniela’s boyfriend. She immediately started showering them with affectionate kisses on their faces.
“I was like, okay, we’re going to take her home,” Daniela recalled.
They adopted her that very same day, determined to give her the life she deserved.
A Misunderstood Energy
Before meeting Daniela, Rubie had tried out a couple of different homes. Unfortunately, those families simply didn’t understand her.
She was returned two separate times because her previous adopters felt her behavior was too sporadic.
They claimed she was just too hyper to handle. But Daniela and her boyfriend saw things completely differently.
“When we met her, instantaneously, it was just love all over,” Daniela explained. “There was not one and is not one bad thing I could say about her.”
The Unexpected Dance
It was true that Rubie had a lot of energy, but it manifested in the most endearing ways.
One day, Daniela was busy doing some work on her computer. She hadn’t been giving Rubie much attention, and the dog decided to make her feelings known.
Rubie started to bark and growl playfully to get her mom’s attention.
Daniela looked over and asked, “Oh, do you want to play?” That was when Rubie revealed her unique quirk.
The Happy Wiggles
In response to the question, Rubie started thrashing her head from side to side. Her entire body began to wiggle with pure joy.
“I’ve never seen something like that before,” Daniela said. “I’ve never had a dog who has done that.”
She quickly learned that the more excited she got, the more Rubie’s body would move around.
If Daniela asked, “Do you want to go outside?” or “Do you want a treat?”, the wiggling would only get harder and faster.
Leaving The Streets Behind
It was a beautiful transformation for a dog who had once been forced to fend for herself.
Rubie went from living on the streets and digging through the trash in Puerto Rico to living a life of luxury.
Now, she is quite literally spoiled as if she is their own baby.
She remains incredibly happy from the moment she wakes up to the moment she finally goes to bed.
One Grumpy Exception
Despite her constantly joyful demeanor, there is one hilarious exception to Rubie’s happy-go-lucky attitude.
The only time Daniela has ever seen her be grumpy is when she is fast asleep.
When Rubie is in a deep slumber, she refuses to be disturbed.
“Once she’s asleep, like you can’t move her, you can’t wake her up,” Daniela joked.
A Comforting Friend
Beyond her silly dances, Rubie is also incredibly in tune with her mom’s emotions.
There have been moments when Daniela has been completely distraught and in tears about something.
Rubie always knows exactly what to do. She will cuddle up close and gently lick Daniela’s face to offer comfort.
As soon as she sees her mom starting to cheer up, Rubie will run to the ground and start her signature wiggling dance to bring a smile to her face.
The Early Morning Alarm
Rubie’s zest for life starts bright and early every single day.
When Daniela’s alarm goes off at 5:30 in the morning, Rubie is always the first one out of bed.
She sprints out the bedroom door, runs straight to the living room, and just starts wiggling before Daniela even says a word.
Daniela lovingly describes her personality as the closest thing to feral without being a wild animal. For this family, Rubie’s wild, wiggling spirit is exactly what makes her so perfect.
