Blind California Dog Avoids His New Sister Until Mom Witnesses A Moment She Never Saw Coming

After overcoming a difficult past, a blind and deaf rescue dog named Little Buddy gets a surprise sibling who refuses to take no for an answer.

To the rest of the world, Little Buddy might seem like a dog who has drawn a tough hand in life.

He is fully deaf and mostly blind, navigating his surroundings through scent and touch. He even had to have one of his eyes removed.

But Little Buddy doesn’t know he’s supposed to hear.

He doesn’t know he is supposed to see better than he does, either. He simply takes life one step at a time.

Hiding in the Rescue

Before he found his forever home, Little Buddy’s life was incredibly sheltered.

He had never been properly socialized, making the world a very scary place for a dog who couldn’t see or hear.

When his future mom first went to meet him at the rescue, he was terrified.

He didn’t even want to come out of his enclosure to say hello.

A Powerful Promise

Adopting a special-needs dog comes with unique emotional challenges.

His new mom wanted to give him the best life possible, but she received one vital piece of advice before taking him home.

The woman at the rescue looked at her and said, "Promise me you won’t feel sorry for him."

She reminded his new mom that Little Buddy didn’t know he was any different from other dogs.

Finding His Stride

At first, Little Buddy was hesitant about everything in his new environment.

But with patience and love, his true personality began to shine through.

He discovered a deep love for the outdoors, stopping to smell every single thing on their walks.

He even became a wonderful hiking companion. Sometimes, he’ll look back at his mom as if to say, "Mom, come on, pick up the pace."

A New Addition to the Family

Earlier this year, his mom decided it was time to open her heart to a second dog.

She brought home Aster, a sweet little puppy who is also completely blind and deaf.

While she was thrilled to expand their family, she wasn’t quite sure how Little Buddy would react.

He was very attached to his mom and simply didn’t know how to play with other dogs.

Not Easily Impressed

Aster proved to be the happiest little dog right from the start.

She was eager to make friends and explore her new home.

Little Buddy, however, was not impressed by this energetic new arrival.

He gave her a quick sniff and immediately ran off in the opposite direction.

A Persistent Little Sister

Despite the cold shoulder, Aster refused to give up on her big brother.

She constantly tried to play with him, playfully chasing him around the house.

Little Buddy would just stand there, seemingly wondering why this tiny creature kept bothering him.

There were times his mom swore she could hear him silently pleading, "Mom, save me."

The Breakthrough Moment

For a while, they settled into a typical older sibling and younger sibling dynamic.

Aster was the annoying little sister, and Little Buddy was the grumpy older brother.

But then, something magical happened.

The very first time Little Buddy actively tried to play back with Aster, his mom said she didn’t know if she had ever been so happy in her whole life.

A Beautiful Mentorship

Once the ice was broken, Little Buddy took on a new role in the household.

He started teaching Aster how to be a good, well-behaved dog.

Because they share the same sensory challenges, they communicate in their own special way.

When Little Buddy sits down, Aster is able to understand that it’s time for her to sit down and be calm, too.

A Bond Like No Other

Today, the two special-needs rescues are completely inseparable.

Aster can easily get Little Buddy to play, and he happily chases her around the yard.

He even grooms his little sister, gently giving her baths.

For a dog who was once terrified of the world, it is a huge accomplishment. Little Buddy truly loves his new best friend.
