The story began when Allison’s brother-in-law was heading home from work and spotted a tiny creature on the side of the road.
The little dog was in incredibly bad shape and completely alone.
Weighing in at just 2.5 pounds, she was alarmingly fragile.
Her rib cage was clearly visible through her fur, and she was absolutely covered in fleas.
Left to Fend for Herself
It was clear to her rescuers that someone had intentionally dumped the tiny dog.
As Allison noted, someone had simply left her behind and decided she was on her own.
Hoping to find a lost family searching for her, they immediately took the fragile pup to the vet.
Unfortunately, the veterinary exam revealed that she was not microchipped.
The sweet dog had no identification and no one looking for her.
A Change of Plans
While Allison’s brother-in-law had saved the dog’s life, he knew he couldn’t provide her forever home.
He was getting ready to welcome a newborn into his family.
Taking on a fragile, traumatized Chihuahua and a new baby at the same time simply wasn’t possible.

Whenever she hears the words “Taco Bell,” the tiny dog gets incredibly excited.
Meeting a Giant Cuddly Bear
As Chaquita settled into her new life, it was time for her to meet the rest of the family.
When she first met Allison’s dad, the tiny dog was understandably a little bit scared.
He was a tall man, and to a 2.5-pound dog, the world can be incredibly intimidating.
But Chaquita quickly learned that he was actually just a “giant cuddly bear.”
Once she realized she was safe in his arms, she immediately connected with him.

She is now a tiny, fluffy little “white cotton ball” who loves to jump around.
She has huge eyes that melt right into your soul.
Because of her rough past, Chaquita is essentially toothless, retaining only one single tooth.
This leaves her with an adorable, permanent quirk: her little tongue always sticks out of the corner of her mouth.
A Healthy and Happy Future
Chaquita’s health has completely transformed since her rescue.
She has doubled her weight, going from a frail 2.5 pounds to a healthy 5.1 pounds.
Her vet confirms she is in great shape, and Allison jokes that while she’s a little “burrito,” she isn’t overweight.
Looking back, Allison can’t even imagine how anyone could have let this precious dog go.
To her family, Chaquita is so much more than just a dog—she is a true friend who finally has the beautiful life she deserves.
