Today, he lives a life of absolute luxury and leisure, perfectly content to let his dad do all the heavy lifting.
But his story did not start out so comfortably. In fact, it began with a heartbreaking discovery in Tennessee.
Thumper was found abandoned under a bridge, suffering from severe injuries after apparently being hit by a car and left behind.
A Temporary Shelter Break
Drew was working at an animal shelter in Tennessee when he first met the battered, quiet dog.
Wanting to give the pup a brief reprieve from the stressful kennel environment, Drew decided to step up and foster him.
The initial plan was simple: take Thumper home for just a couple of days to give him some peace, quiet, and comfort.

When Thumper decides he is done walking, he simply lies down in the grass as if he has no limbs at all.
Not wanting to look bad dragging a three-legged dog in public, Drew is forced to pick him up and carry him the rest of the way.
Thumper’s past injuries also left him with some unique vocal traits, thanks to an old broken jaw that affected his voice box and larynx.
Because of this, he sounds a bit like a hippopotamus and snores like an old man when he sleeps.
