Tennessee Dog Waited Alone Under A Bridge After Apparently Being Hit By A Car And Left Behind
Found injured under a bridge, a sweet dog named Thumper needed a temporary place to heal. Instead, he found a forever home in Tennessee where he can be as delightfully stubborn as he wants.
A Tragic Discovery Under a Bridge

Dogs descended from wild, majestic wolves, but you would never know it looking at a pup named Thumper.
Today, he lives a life of absolute luxury and leisure, perfectly content to let his dad do all the heavy lifting.
But his story did not start out so comfortably. In fact, it began with a heartbreaking discovery in Tennessee.
Thumper was found abandoned under a bridge, suffering from severe injuries after apparently being hit by a car and left behind.
A Temporary Shelter Break

Drew was working at an animal shelter in Tennessee when he first met the battered, quiet dog.
Wanting to give the pup a brief reprieve from the stressful kennel environment, Drew decided to step up and foster him.
The initial plan was simple: take Thumper home for just a couple of days to give him some peace, quiet, and comfort.
However, once they settled in, it quickly became apparent that the dog needed much more than just a quiet place to rest.
Uncovering the Extent of His Injuries

Shortly after bringing him home, Drew noticed that Thumper was limping heavily.
A trip to the veterinarian revealed the devastating extent of the dog’s trauma from being struck by the vehicle.
Thumper’s elbow had been completely shattered, and his hips were twisted from the severe impact.
He also had damage to one of his ears, leaving it permanently flopped down due to hardened tissue.
The Long Road to Recovery

Despite the laundry list of severe injuries, Drew stood faithfully by Thumper’s side.
He carefully guided the dog through his extensive medical treatments and the long, painful recovery process.
Day by day, the broken dog slowly began to heal in the safety and warmth of his foster home.
Eventually, the time came when Thumper was finally healthy enough to be put up for official adoption.
A Foster Fail Meant to Be

When it was time to bring Thumper back to the shelter to find a new family, Drew realized he had a major problem.
He had fallen completely in love with the sweet, resilient dog who had been through so much.
“I just couldn’t do it,” Drew recalled. “I was like, ‘I gotta, I gotta keep him.'”
The temporary, few-day foster arrangement officially turned into a permanent, loving forever home.
The Laziest Wolf Descendant

Now fully healed and living life as a three-legged dog, Thumper has developed some hilarious quirks.
Drew frequently reminds his dog that his ancestors were wolves, a fact that completely contrasts with Thumper’s current lifestyle.
“He’s very, very lazy,” Drew joked about his laid-back best friend.
While he is perfectly capable of walking and running, Thumper prefers to make his dad work hard for the privilege of his company.
Stubborn Protests and Hippopotamus Snores

When Thumper decides he is done walking, he simply lies down in the grass as if he has no limbs at all.
Not wanting to look bad dragging a three-legged dog in public, Drew is forced to pick him up and carry him the rest of the way.
Thumper’s past injuries also left him with some unique vocal traits, thanks to an old broken jaw that affected his voice box and larynx.
Because of this, he sounds a bit like a hippopotamus and snores like an old man when he sleeps.
A Perfect, Unspoken Bond

Despite his funny sounds and stubborn refusal to walk, Thumper is a deeply affectionate companion who loves people.
When he gets to know someone, he wants to be glued to their side and stare straight into their soul.
For Drew, the connection they share is built on a profound, unspoken trust where they both know they have each other’s backs.
“He is a bit broken, but he is perfect at the same time,” Drew shared, grateful for every lazy day they spend together.
