While traveling through the vibrant landscapes of Bolivia with a group of friends, one tourist experienced a chance encounter that would change her life forever. It started in a small town where a sweet, wandering street dog decided to join their group.

The friendly stray didn’t just want a quick pat on the head; he wanted to be part of the pack. He tagged along to all the different sites they visited, spending the entire day soaking up their affection.

As the sun began to set, the travelers knew it was time to move on. They loaded into their van, said their goodbyes to their temporary furry friend, and began to drive away.

As the van pulled away, the travelers looked back and saw something unexpected. The little dog was running right behind them, refusing to be left in the dust.

At first, the group laughed, thinking it was just a cute display of affection. But as the van picked up speed, the dog kept pace.

He was dodging cars and pushing himself to the limit, making it clear that he had no intention of stopping. The situation quickly shifted from amusing to dangerous.

Realizing it wasn’t safe for the devoted dog to continue chasing them through traffic, the group made a quick decision. They pulled the van over to the side of the road.

Not knowing what else to do, they opened the door and let the eager pup jump right in. He was finally where he wanted to be.

The dog ended up spending the night with them, sleeping soundly after his exhausting sprint. It was the beginning of an unforgettable journey together.

The travelers assumed the dog’s attachment would be temporary. They even drove him back to his original town, thinking he might have a canine family or a familiar spot to return to.

But the stray had made his choice. He simply stayed with the group, seamlessly blending into their travel routine.

His new caretaker never even needed to buy him a leash. Whether they were walking through towns or exploring new sights, he stayed right by her side.

After a couple of weeks of exploring Bolivia together, the trip came to an end. The group had to return to North America, but bringing a street dog across international borders wasn’t simple.

They desperately tried to figure out a way to take him home, but none of them had the proper documentation. The process of importing a dog from Bolivia was long and complicated.

With heavy hearts, they realized they had no immediate solution. The traveler was forced to leave the dog she had named Chase behind.

Determined not to give up on Chase, the traveler shared her story online. Almost immediately, amazing people from social media reached out, offering to help navigate the complex international rescue process.

They connected her with Proyecto Aullidos, a beautiful nonprofit organization dedicated to helping Bolivian street dogs. The rescue group stepped up to provide a safe place for Chase to stay.

While he waited, the dedicated team at Proyecto Aullidos handled all of his veterinary care and necessary paperwork, making the daunting process manageable.

It took five long months of waiting, but the traveler finally returned to Bolivia to bring her best friend home. The reunion was everything she had hoped for.

Because of strict import regulations, they had to fly into a CDC-approved airport, making Miami their only option. But the journey wasn’t over yet.

Once they landed in Florida, the dedicated dog mom drove 14 hours straight to Tennessee. She was determined to finally get Chase back to her dad’s place and officially start their new life.

Arriving in Tennessee marked the end of their international ordeal, but it was just the beginning of their North American adventures. The duo soon moved into a “home on wheels.”

For the past couple of years, Chase and his mom have been traveling the country together. The dog who once chased a van through a Bolivian town now rides shotgun in his very own rolling home.

They have the entire world to explore as their backyard, waking up to new landscapes and exciting trails.

The Perfect Travel Companion

He is constantly looking up at her, skipping and hopping with pure joy as they explore the great outdoors. The bond they formed on that dusty Bolivian road has only grown stronger.

Chase finally found the pack he was looking for, and he never has to chase a departing van ever again.
