California Dog Is Surrendered With A Devastating Note And Hides In Her Kennel Too Afraid To Be Touched

Roxy was so terrified at the shelter that she was placed on the euthanasia list. But one California rescuer refused to give up, leading to a beautiful breakthrough in the play yard.

A Confusing New Reality

For a dog named Roxy, the shelter was a terrifying and overwhelming place.

The loud noises and unfamiliar faces were too much for the gentle dog to handle.

She didn’t understand why she had been left behind, and her fear was painfully obvious to anyone who walked past her kennel.

The Heart

When Roxy’s previous family surrendered her, they were asked to fill out a standard form explaining their decision.

Their written response painted a bleak picture of Roxy’s sudden displacement.

The form bluntly stated: “House owner don’t want them, will be kicked out, and can’t find anyone for a new home for them.”

The Flinch That Said It All

Divya, the founder of FurryTail Endings, a nonprofit rescue dedicated to saving animals from high-risk situations, spotted the frightened dog.

Hoping to offer a little comfort, Divya gently put her hand through the kennel to pet her.

Roxy immediately flinched, pulling away from the gentle touch.

“In that moment, I realized that this poor girl had been through some serious trauma and some serious abuse,” Divya recalled.

Running Out Of Time

Because Roxy was so fearful, she wouldn’t allow shelter volunteers to even approach her.

This extreme fear response meant she was placed on the euthanasia list, leaving her with only about a week to live.

Divya had to make the difficult decision to leave the shelter without her that day, needing time to figure out a solid rescue plan.

Days later, Divya returned to the shelter, hoping against hope that Roxy was still there.

A Quiet Moment In The Play Yard

When Divya arrived, she found the beautiful dog waiting in the exact same spot, just as scared as before.

To Divya’s surprise, no one else had stepped up to save her.

Determined to break through Roxy’s walls, Divya took her out to the shelter’s play yard.

At first, the terrified dog simply hid behind a bench, unsure of what to do next.

The Sigh That Changed Everything

Knowing the shelter was incredibly noisy and stressful, Divya decided to give the dog some space to just breathe.

She laid down on the ground, offering quiet, non-threatening companionship.

Slowly, Roxy started creeping up to her, eventually laying her head right on Divya’s chest.

“She just sighed,” Divya shared. “It was like this deep, exhausted sigh, like for the first time in so long, she could finally breathe.”

A Beautiful Freedom Smile

With the help of her brother, who was also volunteering that day, Divya officially got Roxy out of the shelter.

The moment she left the building, Roxy’s entire demeanor shifted.

Her face completely transformed, relaxing into what looked like a massive, joyful smile.

“It’s like, oh my god, this is what this dog is really supposed to be like,” Divya said.

Stepping Into Foster Care

Roxy was loaded into a transporter’s car and taken to a short-term foster home.

That very same night, Divya received videos of Roxy happily running around the backyard with two other dogs.

It was a complete 180-degree turn from the shut-down dog shivering in the shelter kennel.

After a few days, she moved to a long-term foster home, where she spent a month healing and learning how to be a beloved pet.

Roxy’s incredible transformation eventually caught the eye of an amazing family in Colorado.

They were so dedicated to adopting her that they flew all the way down to California.

Not wanting to risk putting Roxy through the stress of an airplane ride, the family rented a car and spent two days driving her back to Colorado.

Today, Roxy spends her days hiking mountains, playing in the snow, and soaking up all the love she always deserved.
