For a sweet Texas dog named Karoo, that love had nowhere to go after a heartbreaking turn of events left her without her babies.
Instead of shutting down, she found a gentle, touching way to channel her maternal instincts.
She began carrying small plush toys around the house, building a nest, and treating them as her own.
Labeled As A Nuisance
Karoo’s journey didn’t start with warmth and comfort.
She was originally picked up wandering alone in a neighborhood, with no family in sight.
The only note on her shelter record was a harsh one: she was simply labeled a “nuisance.”
It was obvious to the shelter staff that she had been living in someone’s yard before ending up on the streets.

The couple soon took Karoo to the vet for her scheduled spay appointment.
After the procedure, the veterinary team delivered some shocking news.
“Hey, the surgery went well. Obviously, she was pregnant and she lost her puppies,” they told the surprised couple.
Suddenly, her unexplained weight gain and nesting behavior made complete, heartbreaking sense.

When they brought Karoo home after the surgery, she seemed deeply sad.
