When a volunteer visited a crowded Dallas shelter, she found a terrified, injured dog who had given up hope. But a brief moment in the play yard revealed a spirit worth saving.

A Heartbreaking First Impression

It was a Saturday in August 2022 when Janae visited an animal shelter in Dallas, Texas. The kennels were loud and bustling with dogs eager for attention, but one particular resident caught her eye by doing the exact opposite.

The dog, a stray named Holly, was huddled away from the glass. She was terribly skinny and clearly injured, completely blind in her right eye.

While other dogs jumped and barked to win over potential adopters, Holly remained frozen in fear. She had simply given up hope of ever being noticed.

A Glimmer of Hope in the Yard

Janae couldn’t walk away from the defeated dog. She asked a shelter volunteer if they could take Holly out to the yard just to give her a break from the stressful kennel environment.
