When a Texas family saw a shelter dog who looked completely defeated, they knew they had to bring him home. What followed was a beautiful journey of healing, starting with a very special naming ceremony.
A Heartbreaking Sight
For one shelter dog, the cycle of rejection had taken a visible toll. He had bounced around from family to family, and the constant instability had left him exhausted.
“I’ve never seen a dog look so just done,” his future mom recalled after seeing him. The poor pup had seemingly given up hope of ever finding a place to truly belong.
But one family in Texas refused to let his story end in a kennel. They looked past his defeated exterior and saw a sweet soul who just needed someone to stay.
The Shelter Visit
Determined to help, the family decided to take action. “We packed up the family, we’re like, let’s go down, look at the shelter,” his new mom explained.

The Official Reveal
The playful pup ran out to make his choice. He hesitated for a moment, changing his mind a couple of times before finally grabbing his favorite.
“OK, bring it here. Which one did you pick?” his mom asked as he trotted back to her.
The family eagerly awaited the reveal. The sweet dog had officially chosen the name Riggs!

To celebrate their new family member, it was time for an official family portrait. However, the weather was not exactly cooperating.
“It was 110° outside. So, everybody’s standing there, just sweat,” his mom laughed.

Steak Sundays
Now that Riggs was finally in a stable home, his family made sure to make up for all the difficult times he had endured. They established a very delicious weekly tradition.
“Every Sunday, I was just like, ‘I’m just gonna get him steak, and we’ll just make this his thing,'” his mom explained.
Riggs enthusiastically embraced the tradition. “Ready? Catch! Oh, good job!” his mom praised as he happily caught his special weekend treat.
The Rest Of His Life
Riggs is now living the ultimate dream. “He’s so spoiled,” his mom admitted with a smile.
The dog who once looked completely “done” with life is now vibrant, happy, and deeply loved. The days of being passed from house to house are officially over.
“I’m so glad he’s here with us now, because this is where he’s gonna be for the rest of his life,” his mom promised. Riggs finally has the forever family he always deserved.
