At just nine months old, she found herself pregnant and alone, desperate to protect her impending family from the bitter winter elements.
She sought refuge under a truck canopy, doing everything she could to keep her babies safe. Fortunately, her days of struggling in the cold were about to come to an end.
The young dog, later named Zorra, was discovered in Yakima, Washington, by a kindhearted individual. She had tucked herself away under a truck canopy with a litter of seven puppies.
She was just a baby herself, yet she was fully responsible for a massive family. The bitter winter elements threatened their survival, making her makeshift shelter under the truck a vital lifeline.
A Dedicated Foster Parent
The person who found Zorra and her puppies didn’t just walk away. They reached out to the local Humane Society to figure out the best plan for the vulnerable family.
The shelter asked if the rescuer could hold onto Zorra and her little ones for about two months. They needed a safe place to stay until the puppies were old enough to be weaned.
The kind individual agreed, fostering the entire family and giving Zorra a much-needed break from the harsh outdoors.
Once the two months were up, the foster parent brought Zorra and her puppies into the Humane Society in Yakima to begin their search for forever homes.
Waiting For Her Turn
Because puppies are often in high demand, Zorra’s seven babies were quickly adopted into loving homes. But Zorra was left behind, waiting for a family of her own.
She was finally posted online for adoption, hoping the right person would see her face and recognize how much love she had to give.
As fate would have it, a man named Ty was scrolling through adoption listings that very day.
It was exactly one year after he had said goodbye to his previous dog. Seeing Zorra’s post on the anniversary of that loss felt like a sign that it was time to open his heart again.
The Perfect Greeting
Ty and his family immediately jumped in the car and drove over to the shelter to meet the young mother. They didn’t know what to expect from a dog who had endured so much.

A High-Flying Co-Pilot
Since Ty is a pilot, Zorra’s adventures often take her thousands of feet into the air. She regularly flies with her family in their small plane.
To keep her comfortable and safe, Ty even made her a little custom headset to protect her hearing. She loves tagging along and settles right onto her dog bed in the back.
Ty jokes that during her first flight, Zorra probably thought the “car” was broken because it wasn’t sticking to the ground.
Otherwise, she treats the airplane just like a normal vehicle, happily staring out the window as the world passes by below.
Instincts Of A Mother
Despite her luxurious new life, Zorra still retains some of the skills she learned while trying to keep seven puppies alive. She is an incredibly skilled huntress who pays attention to every little detail.
Ty often watches her in the backyard, completely mesmerized as she studies a single blade of grass blowing in the wind for an hour.
It is a poignant reminder of how observant she had to be to provide for herself and her babies when they had nothing.
Those motherly instincts also make her fiercely loyal to her new pack. When Ty recently had eye surgery and was restricted to the couch, Zorra never left his side.
Zoomies And Digging Holes
Now that she doesn’t have to worry about survival, Zorra finally gets to act like the puppy she never got to be.
She gets the “zoomies” periodically throughout the day, sprinting around the yard with pure joy.
Her family will often look out the window and see her tossing a ball or a stuffed animal up into the air, catching it all by herself.
She also loves to dig, which caused some initial worry because her grandmother is a very big gardener. Thankfully, her grandparents absolutely adore her, holes and all.
The Silent Communicator
A DNA test revealed that Zorra is a mix of Husky, American Pit Bull, and “super mutt.” Yet, despite her husky heritage, she is surprisingly quiet.
She is a completely silent dog when she is awake and never barks. Instead, she talks entirely through her expressive eyes.
The only time she ever makes any noise is when she is fast asleep, likely dreaming of her daily adventures.
Ty often catches her just staring back at him, communicating volumes of love without ever making a sound.
Tug Of War Solves Everything
Zorra’s absolute favorite game in the world is tug of war. Whenever someone comes over to visit, her first order of business is to greet them and then run off to find a toy.
She even tries to bring her tug toys to the family cats, seemingly confused as to why the felines won’t play along.
To Zorra, playing tug is the ultimate cure-all. As Ty notes, in her mind, if everyone could just play a little tug of war, it would solve all of life’s issues.
From shivering under a truck to flying high in the sky, Zorra has finally found the joyful, carefree life she always deserved.
