Texas Rescuer Noticed Something Unusual About The Female Dog Who Rarely Walked Alone

When a dedicated animal lover spotted a female stray wandering with two protective companions, she knew she had to act fast before a whole new generation was born on the streets.

Life On The Streets

Living on the streets of Texas is never easy, but one stray dog had managed to find a little bit of comfort in the form of companionship. She rarely walked alone.

A local rescuer noticed the female dog wandering the neighborhood, accompanied by two male dogs who seemed to act as her protectors.

The rescuer quickly realized the stakes were higher than just finding food. She suspected the female was either already pregnant or heading that way, making a rescue mission urgent.

A Hesitant Mama

The rescuer approached the little pack, gently calling the female dog ‘Mama.’ It was clear the dogs had been roughing it for a while.

Mama was covered in flies and ticks, desperately in need of medical attention and a soft place to rest. But wanting to help and being allowed to help are two different things.

The rescuer tried offering Vienna sausages to coax her closer, but the wary dog refused to eat them. Trust was going to be hard to earn.

Fear Of The Leash

The biggest obstacle was the dogs’ intense fear of being captured. The moment the rescuer held any kind of leash in her hand, Mama immediately backed up.

The two male dogs were around even more often than she was, but they shared her deep mistrust. They would never let the rescuer approach them with a leash.

Realizing that traditional catching methods wouldn’t work, the rescuer knew she had to change her strategy to save all three of them.

Formulating A Plan

To get them to safety, the rescuer needed to figure out exactly where the little pack was staying. She hoped to find a way to safely trap them in a contained space.

She tracked their movements and found a spot where they felt comfortable. She decided to use food to lure them, placing treats on the steps to get them used to the area.

After giving them a few minutes to smell the food and lower their guards, she set up a humane trap, hoping hunger would win out over fear.

Catching The Boys

The trap worked, but not quite as expected. The two loyal boyfriends went into the enclosure, securing their ticket off the streets.

However, the female dog—who the rescuer had named Tarot—was nowhere to be found that day.

With the boys safely secured, the rescuer had to wait and hope that Tarot would return so the trio could be fully reunited.

Tarot Finally Caves

The wait was nerve-wracking, especially knowing Tarot’s delicate condition. But just a couple of days later, the hungry mother-to-be finally reappeared.

Unable to resist the safety and food offered, Tarot finally caved and walked into the trap. The entire street family was finally safe.

It was a massive relief for the rescuer, who knew that time was running out for the pregnant dog.

Just In Time

Tarot was immediately transported to a comfortable foster home, far away from the dangers of the street.

The timing couldn’t have been more perfect. Shortly after arriving in her warm, safe foster environment, Tarot gave birth to her puppies.

“We pretty much got her just in time,” the rescuer noted, thankful that the babies were born indoors instead of on the hard pavement.

A Flipped Switch

While Tarot was busy being a mother, her two loyal boyfriends were adjusting to their new lives. The transformation was incredible.

Once the boys were released into a safe, fenced yard, their street-hardened exteriors melted away. They became incredibly happy and playful.

It was as if a switch had been flipped. They finally realized they didn’t have to be on guard anymore and could just be dogs.

Ready For Forever

The story couldn’t have ended better for this little street family. All of Tarot’s puppies grew up strong and have already found their forever homes.

With her mothering duties behind her, Tarot is finally ready to relax. She is looking for a home where she can just be somebody’s baby on the couch.

The two boys are also fully rehabilitated and ready for their forever homes, proving that with a little patience, every street dog can find their perfect happily ever after.
