A Heartbreaking Start

Rogue’s life began with unimaginable tragedy. She was brought into an emergency veterinary clinic following a horrific drive-by shooting.

In that single, devastating incident, the young dog lost all of her siblings. Rogue herself didn’t escape unharmed, as she was shot directly in the paw.

With no family to comfort her and a painful injury to endure, her future looked incredibly bleak. “No one claimed her,” her future mom, Katie, explained, noting that she likely came from a homeless situation.

Despite the trauma she had just endured, Rogue’s story was far from over. A twist of fate was waiting for her in the very place she went to heal.

An Unexpected Meeting

To help her severe injury heal, Rogue was transferred to a local rehabilitation facility. It was a necessary step for her recovery, but it also put her in exactly the right place at the right time.

“We were not looking for her, but somehow the universe brought her to us,” Katie recalled.

Seeing the undeniable connection between the two dogs, Katie’s family made a life-changing decision. “Before we knew it, we had two dogs,” she shared.

Once in a safe and loving home, Rogue’s physical recovery truly took off. Veterinary teams worked hard to repair the damage from the gunshot wound.

“They literally healed her bones together,” Katie explained. “So, it’s kind of amazing what the puppy body and technology we have in medicine can do.”

Today, Rogue’s paw has healed completely. While she may face some arthritis in the future, Katie says it is amazing to watch her run around as if the injury never even happened.

Too Smart For Her Own Good

As Rogue settled into her new life, her true personality began to shine through. She quickly proved to be a dog who loves to do anything and everything.

Katie describes her as beautiful, kind, and incredibly intelligent. In fact, she might just be a little too clever.

“She knows how to open doors on her own, open windows,” Katie laughed. “She’s very clever, too smart for her own good.”

But above all, Rogue is deeply affectionate. She would look up at Katie with big, expressive eyes and fall asleep right in her arms, proving that she knew she was finally safe.

A Devastating Loss

For a while, life was perfect for Rogue and her new family. She had a loving home, a healed body, and a bulldog sister she adored.

Tragically, the family eventually had to say goodbye to their beloved little bulldog. The loss left a massive hole in their hearts, and Rogue felt the absence deeply.

Katie noticed that Rogue was visibly sad after losing her sister. The once-vibrant dog was mourning the friend who had helped her transition into her new life.

Knowing how much Rogue thrived on companionship, the family realized she needed a new friend to help her heal from this emotional loss.

Enter Stewie

The family decided that finding another dog would help socialize Rogue and give her an outlet for her energy. That’s when they learned about a dog named Stewie.

“He had, I think, three siblings, and they all got adopted, and we don’t know why he didn’t get adopted, actually,” Katie noted.

Hoping to give Stewie a chance and give Rogue a companion, Katie’s family decided to foster him. They just had to see how the two dogs would react to one another.

Love At First Sight

Any worries about how the dogs would get along vanished the moment they met. Rogue’s reaction to the new foster dog was immediate and enthusiastic.

“As soon as Rogue saw Stewie, she was like, ‘Yep, throw that one in the car. He’s good to go,'” Katie joked.

When they brought Stewie home, Rogue took on the role of the ultimate host. She was incredibly generous and sweet, eagerly sharing her space and her toys.

“She literally was just like, ‘Welcome to our home. Isn’t it the best? This is amazing. I’m so glad I get to share it with you,'” Katie recalled. Stewie, thrilled to finally have a family, soaked up all the love.

The Missing Piece

It didn’t take long for Stewie to become a permanent “foster fail” and an official member of the family. Together, he and Rogue bring endless positivity and life to the house.

The bond they share has brought the light back into Rogue’s eyes. Katie says having a brother has truly helped bring out her vibrant personality once again.

The family is so attached to the duo that even a single day apart is tough. When the dogs recently spent the day at daycare, the house felt entirely too quiet.

Today, Rogue is living her absolute best life after surviving such a horrific start. She smiles more, stays present, and finally has the beautiful, complete family she always deserved.
