This Senior Dog Was Left Alone Beside A Wisconsin Road After A Lifetime On A Chain

After a life of neglect and continuous litters, a senior dog named Midge was abandoned on the side of the road in Wisconsin. But when a compassionate adopter saw her face, Midge’s luck finally turned around.

For most of her life, a sweet dog named Midge knew only the heavy weight of a chain.

She was used to having litter after litter of puppies, never experiencing the comfort of a warm home or a loving family.

When she was no longer deemed useful, she was simply abandoned on the side of a road, left to fend for herself.

Thankfully, someone spotted the lonely senior dog and brought her to the local Humane Society.

An Immediate Connection

Meanwhile, a kind-hearted woman was looking to open her home to a senior dog in need.

She came across a group called Albert’s Dog Lounge Rescue, and that’s when she saw Midge’s face on their website.

The connection was instant. “It was kind of an immediate, oh my gosh, I love this dog,” her new mom recalled.

She couldn’t wait to meet the sweet senior pup in person.

The day finally arrived when Midge’s foster mom brought her to her new home.

Her new mom went outside to greet them, wondering how the senior dog would react after such a hard life.

As soon as Midge stepped out of the car, she didn’t hesitate. She wiggled her way right up to her new mom, incredibly happy to meet her.

It was the beautiful moment Midge realized she was finally free.

In her new home, Midge had something she had likely never experienced: a safe, fenced-in yard.

She was given plenty of time and space to explore her new surroundings at her own pace.

Initially, her mom tried crate training her at night to help her settle into a routine.

But that didn’t last long. Soon enough, Midge had claimed her rightful spot right in her mom’s bed.

Taking It Slow

Years of neglect and lack of exercise had taken a toll on Midge’s body.

She developed arthritis, meaning she doesn’t move as fast as she used to.

When they go for walks, Midge takes her time, insisting on stopping to sniff everything in the neighborhood.

Her mom doesn’t mind the slow pace at all, happy to let Midge enjoy the simple pleasures she missed out on for so long.

A Veterinary Favorite

Despite her past, Midge is an incredibly sweet and social dog.

She even loves going to the vet, where she has become a fast favorite among the staff.

When Midge had to undergo heartworm treatment, the clinic staff couldn’t bear to leave her in a cage.

Instead, they kept her behind the counter with them, tending to her and giving her the attention she craved.

Soaking Up The Love

Midge’s mom suspects that while she may not have been outright abused, she suffered from severe neglect.

Because of this, Midge deeply appreciates any affection she receives from people.

She even enjoys sitting quietly and listening to her new dad play the guitar.

When her mom’s daughters come to visit, Midge greets them with pure joy, acting like she hasn’t seen them in forever.

Protecting Her Treasures

Because of her history of going without, Midge can be a little protective of her belongings.

She likely didn’t get fed regularly or have toys of her own in her previous life.

To keep her comfortable, her family puts the toys away when other dogs visit, ensuring Midge never feels anxious.

But with her mom, Midge has no reservations, happily accepting love and giving sweet kisses in return.

A Cup Half Full

Midge’s mom hopes to get her registered as a therapy dog one day, so she can visit nursing homes and hospitals and share her gentle spirit.

Seeing Midge find so much happiness now warms her family’s hearts every single day.

“She’s a dog, I think, who is a cup half full rather than a cup half empty,” her mom noted.

Whether it’s raining or snowing, Midge is just thrilled to be outside, running around, and finally living the beautiful life she always deserved.
