Pennsylvania College Student Abandons Her Dorm After Learning One Puppy Is Still Waiting
A pregnant shelter dog gave birth to ten puppies in foster care. Nine found homes quickly, but when one sweet boy was left behind, a devoted Pennsylvania college student made a surprising sacrifice to change his life forever.
The Pregnant Shelter Dog And Her Ten Puppies

It started with a pregnant dog sitting in a crowded shelter, waiting for a miracle. Thankfully, a local rescue group stepped in to pull her to safety before she gave birth.
A kind woman agreed to foster the expectant mother, giving her a quiet, safe place to rest. Shortly after arriving at her foster home, the dog gave birth to a beautiful litter of ten puppies.
The puppies thrived in the loving environment, growing stronger and more playful by the day. As they reached adoption age, families began lining up to take them home.
The Last Puppy Left Behind

One by one, the puppies were chosen by their new families. Eventually, nine of the siblings had packed their bags and started their new lives.
But one puppy, a sweet boy named Toad, was left waiting. He was the very last of the litter to be adopted.
Carly, the foster mom’s daughter, had been watching Toad grow up. Seeing him left behind tugged at her heart, and she knew she couldn’t let him wait any longer.
A Massive Sacrifice For A Sweet Boy

Taking Toad in wasn’t going to be an easy task for Carly. At the time, she was a college student living in campus dorms, which didn’t allow dogs.
With one semester left to graduate, Carly made a bold decision for the sake of the growing puppy. She literally abandoned her dorm room and bought an apartment off campus just so she could adopt him.
Even though she still had to pay for her empty dorm room, she didn’t care. Having Toad by her side made the financial sacrifice completely worth it.
She spent her final semester walking him all around campus and town, building a bond that would last a lifetime.
An 80-Pound Gentle Giant

As Toad grew up, he blossomed into a massive, 80-pound dog. However, nobody seemed to have told him about his impressive size.
“Toad is just a big baby,” Carly explained. “He thinks he’s a lap dog, even though he weighs 80 pounds.”
He became known as a gentle giant with a goofy, lovable personality. He absolutely adores his toys, though he usually only enjoys them if he can completely destroy them.
If a toy proves too tough to tear apart, Toad simply gets bored and leaves it behind.
Scared Of Leaves And Lawn Ornaments

Despite his imposing size, Toad is actually quite a timid soul. He startles easily on walks, sometimes jumping at the sound of a single leaf crunching underfoot.
Holiday decorations are another major source of anxiety for the big dog. He is particularly frightened of inflatable yard displays and little lawn ornaments that spin in the wind.
Toad also has a hilarious, harmless quirk: he frequently bumps his head into parked cars. Carly confirmed his vision is perfectly fine; he just walks right into them as if they aren’t there.
Even with his silly fears, he takes his job as Carly’s protector very seriously. He isn’t a fan of strangers approaching her on walks and requires a proper introduction before making new human friends.
Family Reunions And Playdates

Because Carly’s mother decided to adopt Toad’s mom, the two dogs were able to maintain a beautiful relationship. They enjoyed regular playdates and always got incredibly excited to see each other.
Although Carly’s mom eventually moved out of state, making visits harder, Toad still kept up with his extended family. He has had joyous reunions with two of his littermates.
Toad is also great with other dogs of all sizes, provided they are introduced properly. His best friends include a pug and a Boston Terrier.
Welcoming A Senior Chihuahua Brother

Eventually, Carly decided it was time to expand their little family. She went to the shelter and adopted Link, an 18-year-old senior Chihuahua mix.
Toad was absolutely thrilled when his mom brought the tiny, frosty-faced senior home. He immediately wanted to be best friends with his new brother.
The giant dog constantly tries to initiate playtime with the tiny Chihuahua. It is an adorable sight, but Link rarely shares the enthusiasm.
As an older gentleman, Link is mostly a loner who just wants to sleep or peacefully sniff around the yard.
An Unbreakable Bond With A Grumpy Senior

Even though Link won’t play with him, Toad’s devotion to the tiny senior is absolute. Their bond has completely changed Toad’s daily routines.
In the past, Toad struggled with separation anxiety when they moved to a new apartment. He has since outgrown his fear of being left alone, but with one major exception.
If Carly leaves the house by herself, Toad is perfectly fine. But if she dares to leave the house with Link, Toad will cry so loudly she can hear him from the driveway.
He simply cannot stand the thought of his little brother going on an adventure without him.
The First Dog That Was Entirely Hers

For Carly, the journey of raising Toad has been incredibly special. He is the first dog she has ever had that is entirely her own, rather than a family pet.
From his puppy days in her off-campus apartment to his life as an 80-pound gentle giant, she has handled all of his care. They have grown up together, navigating college, moves, and new family members.
“I’m definitely his person,” she shared with a smile. The puppy who was once left behind is now the center of her world.
“I love him so much,” Carly said. “I’m so glad he’s my dog.”
