Georgia Puppy Was Dumped Beside The Street In A Box, Then One Everyday Thing Left Her Terrified
After being abandoned in a box, a timid Georgia puppy needed time, patience, and a lot of love to realize the world wasn’t such a scary place.
A Peaceful Journey
On the evening of March 3rd, Nicole found herself navigating the busy city streets.
Parking was an absolute nightmare, but the chaotic trip was entirely worth it.
Once safely inside the car, a tiny rescue puppy sat in Nicole’s lap and slept the entire way home.
Left On The Street
The little dog, named Tessa, had a heartbreaking start to life in Atlanta.
She was one of four little girls brought to a DeKalb County shelter in a box by a man who simply said he didn’t want them.
Because the facility required an appointment to surrender animals, they had to send him away. Tragically, he chose to dump the four puppies right on the side of the street.
Signs Of Neglect
When the puppies were finally rescued, it was clear they had come from a terrible situation.
All of the sisters were suffering from injuries and painful rashes.
Tessa was particularly weak, with a large scrape on her arm and rashes covering her fragile belly.
Love At First Sight
Despite her rough condition and timid nature, Tessa had a gentle spirit that shone through.
When Nicole met her, the connection was immediate and profound.
“I instantly fell in love with her,” Nicole recalled. “I just knew it was my dog.”
Settling Indoors
Once Tessa arrived at her new apartment, she proved to be a wonderful and polite house guest.
Nicole and her husband already had two cats, and the sweet puppy got along with them perfectly.
Indoors, she felt safe and secure, but the outside world was an entirely different story.
Terrified Of The Outside
Tessa was incredibly shy and sensitive, heavily carrying the trauma of her abandonment.
She was terrified to even step foot outside of their apartment building.
Whenever they tried to go for a walk, she would run right back to the house, desperate to get back inside where she felt protected.
A Village Of Support
Knowing Tessa needed extra help, her family dedicated themselves to easing her deep-rooted anxiety.
They worked closely with trainers and started sending her to daycare once a week to help her adjust to other dogs and people.
They also hired dog walkers so Tessa could get used to new faces coming in and greeting her warmly.
Blossoming Into Confidence
The hard work and patience paid off beautifully. Over the course of three months, Tessa truly blossomed.
She began to gain confidence and actually started enjoying her time out in the fresh air.
Now, one of her absolute favorite activities is running around and playing fetch.
Daddy’s Little Girl
Tessa also developed a very special bond with Nicole’s husband.
He treats her like she’s “daddy’s little girl,” and she constantly follows him around, looking up at him with pure adoration.
While she usually wears a funny, wrinkled brow that makes her look deep in thought, she is all smiles right after a good game of fetch.
Saving Each Other
The good news extended to Tessa’s sisters, as all four puppies were eventually adopted to loving homes that still stay in touch.
For Nicole, Tessa’s arrival couldn’t have been timed better. During a year filled with dramatic family struggles, the sweet dog became her emotional anchor.
“She’s the reason I made it through it,” Nicole shared. “I’m very lucky to have her.”
