Georgia Worker Kept Seeing A Hungry Dog Eating Garbage At His Construction Site
When Clay spotted a hungry stray dog at his Georgia construction site, he spent weeks patiently offering treats until she finally made a decision that changed both their lives.
A Hungry Visitor

Whenever Clay pulled into the subdivision for work, a stray dog would come running out of nowhere.
She looked incredibly hungry and was surviving the only way she knew how.
For the most part, the sweet pup was eating straight out of the garbage.
It was a heartbreaking sight, and Clay knew he couldn’t just look the other way.
Living on Scraps

Clay, who works in real estate and construction, first spotted the dog in early August.
She was lingering around one of his job sites, desperately looking for her next meal.
Some of the construction workers had noticed her too and were leaving small things for her.
They would toss her food scraps to keep her going, but she kept her distance.
A Skittish Soul

Despite the kindness of the workers, the dog was incredibly skittish.
She was very shy around people and wouldn’t let anyone get too close.
Clay decided he was going to put in the effort to show her that humans could be trusted.
Over the course of a month, he started visiting the site a couple of times a week with treats.
The Breakthrough Moment

At first, progress was slow, but she began getting closer and closer over time.
Still, she never quite worked up the courage to eat anything directly out of his hand.
Then, one magical day, everything shifted for the tired stray.
She finally walked right up to Clay, gently took a treat from his hand, and laid down right next to him.
A Quiet Ride Home

In that moment, as she rested beside him, Clay knew exactly what he had to do.
He decided right then and there that he was going to take her home.
He gently picked the dog up and placed her inside his truck.
She didn’t resist, cry, or bark—she just seemed relieved to finally be safe.
Embracing Indoor Life

Once she arrived at her new home with Clay and his fiancée, Jenny, the dog—now named Tappie—transformed.
The couple could tell right away just how grateful she was to have a roof over her head and a steady source of food.
She opened up incredibly quickly to her new surroundings.
Within just a couple of days, Tappie was already cuddling with them in bed.
A Heartbreaking Discovery

When Clay and Jenny took Tappie to the vet, they learned she was already spayed.
Clay did some research and even found a picture of her from about a month before he found her.
While they couldn’t be entirely sure, they suspected she had been previously adopted and then completely neglected or abandoned.
“It’s very upsetting to see how people would abandon their dogs or neglect them,” they noted, firm in their belief that no dog belongs on the streets.
The Start of a Family

Today, the bond they share with Tappie has blossomed into a beautiful family connection.
She loves to be as close to her rescuers as possible. “Velcro is an understatement. She’s an adhesive dog,” Clay joked.
With Clay and Jenny getting married in June, Tappie represents a special milestone for the couple.
She is the very beginning of the family they are building together, and they wouldn’t have it any other way.
